I can just see the Liberals latching on to the defense of property part, ignoring/suppressing the rest:

OMG CONSERVATIVES WANT TO MAKE IT LEGAL TO SHOOT SOMEONE FOR TAKING YOUR LAWNMOWER!!!SKY IS FALLING, DEAD PUPPIES IN THE GUTTERS, RACISM, VOTE LIBERAL AAAAAAAHHHG!!!!

Some of the things that you spout off about. Also do not mean squat. Some of them are really laughable.

It doesn't matter whether the gun they have is illegal or not they don't care about laws in the first place. You could make every gun illegal and you would still have these guys armed to the teeth it's not laws against guns we need laws against criminals !

one of the National Council candidates just sent out a preliminary list of motions to be discussed at the convention which happens in a few weeks. The preliminary list is here on Dropbox

the self-defense motion is ranked #6 in number of positive votes from riding associations (out of about 70ish policy resolutions altogether)

GOC members in the old 2016 thread deserve credit for helping write the motion.

Very true. However, the only way to change that is from inside the pary apartus. That's not saying one will be successful, but one will have 0 success trying to change things from outside the political spectrum. Canadian politicals is dominated by left of center liberals...always has been. The "big C" conservatives have always worked along that central margin, ebbing left and right of center depending on subject matter. Recent history shows that for gun laws, the Conservatives are not any different than the Liberals insofar as real rights are concerned (rights of owership, possession, protection).

Perhaps the party under Sheer would act differently if in power? Only chance for that is people working from within the party to push that agenda.

A little cynicism is healthy. All parties do that, so no better or worse on that score.
Mulroney swore up and down he'd "Fix the gun laws." prior to 1984, then let Campbell make 'em worse.
And the Grits, not to be outdone, had to appear to be 'doing something' so they made things a whole lot worse.
    So what's your point?
