Ya, okay, it's just me braggin'. But it is a personal best, so I gotta show off......

On Saturday, Armorman came over and zeroed his new ATACR scope on his Timberwolf. Then we went to the one-mile line and did a little shooting. Absolutely no wind, so perfect day for it. Although we did find that we had some kind of a breeze coming down the hill at the target, which required dialing in some "left". Was interesting to compare, side by side, the ATACR to my NXS....little better clarity, and more field of view, very nice scope.

Shooting line, complete with our spotter....(and cowshit):

Heres the spotter, thinking it's time for lunch?

Great group and you should be proud of it. And the funny thing is it happened so fast it was like you were't even trying!

Anyway, it was a great day to shoot that far. Being that the conditions were ideal and it was only my second time shooting at that distance I sure learnt a lot about my set-up and what needs to be tweaked. Can't wait to do it all over again!

Don't forget there is a shooting position behind the one you were shooting from! That one needs your name on it also !!!

This should make it easier in the future, eh? Now you just need about a 20" target out there. Think of how much easier that will be for setting up/painting/etc.

Yes, I did see that, a really nice spot! Unfortunately 2600 yards might be a bit of a crap shoot (pardon the pun) with the load that my rifle likes the best. I need a 50!

And you need an ATACR. Optically it's a noticeable improvement over my NXS...especially at long-long range. It's the nicest scope I've looked through. And I did gain the extra 20 MOA elevation that they advertise to have over a NXS...

Yes I just bought an nsx from Dmay but I am thinking I'll be stepping up with the atacr for the cheytac and the snipetac ! But even with that said I could see the mark at a mile with the nsx!!! I know the mk 4 can't see it so I am happy with it as it stands

Well, that ruled out the leupold for me. Here's hoping you upgrade soon and an NSX shows up in the market place!
I was told once that anything larger that 50mm creates issues due to height over barrel. Is there any truth to that or do you guys just compensate?

stevesummit

Ballistic programs ask for sight over bore height and run the numbers for you! I haven't run into any issues with any that I have set up !

Moose hunting was a success. Moose in cooler.
Nice shootin Darrell. Looks like ya got her dialed in now.
Where is the snow? 4 inches here. I'll need a sled to set up targets here. I have a bit more playing to do at 1500 till I stretch her out to a mile.
Where is the couch mans hits??

Darrel,

I'm about to build a 7WSM and was pondering barrel length and twist. What did you go with?

I think you're on the correct path choosing this chambering. After seeing what Darrell's 7WSM can do I'm sorry I own a 338 Lapua! By examining the damage done to the steel plates at 1 mile, his 180gr Bergers were leaving divots about as deep as my 250gr Scenars, while burning a lot less powder with no muzzle brake and way less "report". If I had to do it all over again, 7WSM would get the nodů.

I think that you would miss the horse power and the energy down range when you get up to the 300's doing decent speeds!

Armorman
11-09-2013, 12:56 PM
Yes, that's true. But in my case I'd have to run the improved chamber to see any meaningful gain..…which is the route I'm heading in anyway….lol. There is no end to this madness….

Lol when you start seeing powder going through your measure and reading over 100 gr that's when it gets interesting for sure !!!!

Canuck257

I have no intention of getting rid of my 338 LM, it gives me too much of a thrill every time I touch it off. Compared to booze and drugs (not to mention "les girls") it's a cheap, painless and legal addiction.

I have a 25/300 WSM (aka. 25 Pronghorn) which is a joy to shoot and performs exceptionally well with 115 Bergers. It was this rifle that made me decide to go for the 7WSM because of the higher BC's of the 7 mm bullets and the availability of heavier weights. I plan on trying the 162 Amax and the 180 Bergers when the barrel arrives which will, hopefully, be soon?

Thanks Darrel,

I decided on a 28 inch, 8 1/2 twist throated long for the 180 Berger. What powder/primer/brass are you using to get that velocity?
