Been toying with the idea of building a new rifle.
Want it for everything up too mule deer.
But!Would really like it too shoot between a 100 and 120 gr bullets.
Why?dont know.Just have the need for some speed.
I realize with the 280 I can go higher bullets weights.
Yes I reload, and have all the components for both calibers allready.
Will be at least a 26 inch barrel, probablly from shilen.
Also toying with the idea of Ackley Improving oneor the other.
thanxs

It really is one of those "there is no right answer" questions, isn't it?
You can get the 25 cal bullets up to near light speed, but there is such a variety of 7mm bullets.
Personally, I think I'd go for a 25-06 and be happy with one or two bullet/load combinations.
With the 280 I think I'd go broke trying out all the variables, and might never be satisfied.
Plus, to 280 is only 7 thou different from a 270, and those are like belly buttons...
I like being different ;)

25-06 and a 100g bullet at 3300fps, varmints to deer with one load.
I've killed two moose with same load, but i wouldn't recomend it for for elk/moose unless you went to a 120g premium bullet and kept your shooting under 200 yds.

I like 25's

Having shot both I'd go 25-06 for deer.

If you go 280 you might as well go 7mmRM...

25/06 ... one of the most versatile and underrated calibers out there...

Love the 25s as well. My walk-about rifle is a 250 AI, and the 100 gr Barnes TSX is plenty of medicine for deer and moose. I'm very sure the 25-06 wouldn't disappoint you.

Should the time ever comes to sell her, which one would be the easiest?
The 25-06 has a nice ring to it.

sometimes there's no choice...I would have needed another building if I kept everything I've bought over the years.
