View Full Version : Gotta Love Boyd's!

Being the Fudd I am, I have been on a mission to eliminate anything plastic from my safe... First on the block was my old 870 express circa 1993... It originally had the crappy wood furniture on it (yes, back then they didn't come with laminate, just cheap wood)... this was the first gun I ever purchased myself and will never leave the collection.... I had replaced the old wood once it became cracked with some camouflage synthetic pieces that I was never quite happy with.... I had also put a red dot on it for turkey hunting but have decided to go back to open sights after struggling to find a moving gobbler in the red dot in thick brush....... I purchased a Boyd's laminate set in Forest Camo and a 22 inch Truglo barrel for the project....

Before:

Then with plastic and red dot.....

And now with Boyd's and 22 inch Truglo....

Then it was on to my 700 SPS DM in 30-06 .... I absolutely love this rifle but the plastic hardware was rubbery and just not me..... So Boyd's was the ticket on this one too......

Before....

After.....

And then there is my Rem 799 in .223 which comes stock with a Boyd's nutmeg laminate.....

The most impressive thing to me was that the two aftermarket Boyd's set ups were direct drop in and bolt down... no adjustment necessary at all.... These stocks are great and a great way to revive a beaten up favorite as well....

Fairly inexpensive... with custom polymer tip it coast me around $150 shipped.... plus I have the original stock up for sale which will recoup some of that cost....

Well, I can't find anything but the thumbhole model which is not what I want.

Otherwise, completely doable.

Very nice superbrad, I love my Boyd's, and my other laminate stocks. I'm looking at some of my nice walnut stocks and thinking I should throw a Boyd's on there just to keep the original stock in decent shape.

I hunt all of my guns... If those two had walnut on them I'd be hunting them hard regardless.... not hunting with a gun because it is too pretty is like not sleeping with your wife for the same reason.... lol

the 870 looks great Brad, so does the SPS.
the Boyds wood I have is great too, especially for the price.
Was gonna restock my SPS with a pepper lam thumbhole but I agreed to sell it to a buddy the other night so I could buy a Marlin 1895CB...that the seller sold out from under me after sending his email address (no name or other info just an email address) for the EMT...ggrrrr.

Yours is not DM correct? internal box mag?

It has a hinged floor plate magazine. I don't know what DM means.

It's a bull barrel.

Unfortunately that was for the factory barrel.... since you have the bull barrel I see where they only offer the thumbhole and tacticool stock... that being said, they could probably make you what you want.... only issue will be that it will be a custom order so no return possible unless defective.... Oh, and DM = Detachable magazine

Yup Im a big fan of Boyds, I just picked up my new nutmeg prairie hunter today for my Axis. I like it very much, and it just fell into place.

It's such a good deal that you can take a $200 gun and spend $150 and have an absolute gem of a firearm to proudly display and more importantly use...

Also a fan. The walnut stock I have on my M305 is a Boyds. I hardly had any trimming to do. I bedded it, finished it, and brought it to the range.
