Couple times a day I get a round that does this.

and the rounds end up looking like this.

so im guessing its picking up another round off the ramp, but the tip of the bullet misses the chamber hole high and... ummm.. Pre-Stovepipes? it really doesn't happen too often.

thats odd ... are you using the factory mag ?are those your reloads doing that? seating depth maybe even factory rounds may be seated just a bit long I've found
I know sometime when Ive let others shoot mine and they don,t let the bolt snap forward hard enough
a round will get stuck on the outside edge of the chamber but It doesn't do that when cycling on its own
I use a tapco mag though, Satain, or strewth will know

Did you baptize it in the tears of capitalist pigs? :)

I second the mag question?

Two minutes in on this video for filing Tapco mags:

I too am wondering about the mag.If it is a aftermarket mag pinned to five then that wouldn't surprise me if that was the issue

The only thing aftermarket on my sks is the scope mount, and the ejection port mod. It also. Happenes on its own,not by me racking the bolt.

ive had the exact thing happen to me twice, no mods whatsoever on the gun

Well....poop. I can't see this being much other than a feed problem, I'm seeing that you keep your gun clean, so it's not going to be a crud build up, you would have noticed a burr on any edges...
Mkay, hmmm. How is the mag pinned? Sometimes the welds break off bits, check the coil spring under the front of the follower , SKS is indestructible, but some more so than others...
Does it always happen with the same round in the order being fed?
Does the follower rise smoothly?
Sorry for all the questions in one post:).

Yep nice and clean. Only burr or edge would of been where I ground down the ejection port, but i smoothed that area nicely.

Now the mag is riveted with a cylindrical black stopper inside. As im looking at it now theres a 1.5mm gap on the bottom. Is that normal? Heres a picture.

I cant close the bolt with 5 rounds in the mag either. If that means anything?

It once happened on consecutive shots. seems to be random. i would say 1 in 60 rounds. Chinese Surplus from the 70's is all ive fired from it.

Follower is nice and smooth up and down.

Questions are good!! ;) Thanks!

Humph. Am I allowed to blame the ammo yet? :)

OK, are the feed lips perhaps too far apart? Do you have snapcaps at home, or maybe spend some time at the range cycling live ammo, to see if you can replicate your FTF. See if you can (gently, but firmly) pry a round straight up out of the mag? You could probably do this with an empty case.

Did that all come out right? Makes sense in my head, maybe it reads funny.

You can blame the ammo next, okay? lol

Without being able to get my digital caliper in there all the way, it about .470 across from lip to lip. Heres a picture of the mark from the tip of the bullets.

and every time I got to my lgs, they are out of 7.62 snaps. Always. im like 0 for 7 here :|

'K, .470; just a sec.
...I've got about a .440 average, (.43-.45), I find it hard to believe glorious riffle of proletariat would be stovepiping live ammo off such a small difference, but? Before attacking it with pliers, maybe see if someone else on the 'net had the same issue resolved with this idea.

Follower arm is bent.
Shown right here.

I see on SKSboards a similar problem was resolved by noticing the follower itself was a little twisted; a small tweak to flatten it solved it for that person? Is your follower bent in that open mag pic?

Edit: Satain beat me to it. :p Molly Maid? Cleaning up after us?

Right here you can see that it does not line up straight. There should be no gap by the lips. So it could also be but rare bent mag lips but my money is still on the follower. Hard 2 tell from pics and not out blasting and fondling it.

Hi! I have the same issue with my Russian SKS, you found a way to fix it?
