Like a few of us in the firearm community I am building myself a M1 Garand (or 5). I have a BMB bolt that has been electro-penciled on the top. The markings are faint but annoying. My question, would it be ok to have these marks "scrubbed" from the bolt or would this be detrimental to the looks or operational integrity of the bolt? There is a machine shop down the road from me where I could get it done professionally and not me with a dremel.

I don't see the harm in it so long as it's not half the thickness deep!

The marks are light and if one was patient the dots of the engraving pencil can be counted. I think I will get it done as it is just enough to be annoying.

As a warning, electropencil locally hardens the area of the marings. Once you remove the markings and re-park the bolt, you will likely still see the ghosted outline of the numbers as harder metal parkerizes a different colour.
