Good day everyone

Just wanted to post up that it looks like the poker rally shoot is slated for july 5/6 2014! This will be held at a venue to be named at a later date . The area is kind of central between Edmonton and Calgary !

The buy in will be 75$/per adult or 125$ for a family of four and kids under 16 shoot free for the two days of this event ,additional hands will be avaiable for 20$ each or three for 50$! We are working on finalizing the course in the next two weeks , so I will get this out to everyone when it is avaiable . The shoot is open to families

Now the premis behind this event is you load your rifle on your quad and take trails to various shooting positions and engage targets at unknown distances, we are also planning this out so you can drive your truck from station to station ! Then proceed to the next station on your map till you have completed the course. At each station you will engage targets that are assigned to cards that will be laid out at random by the rso that is attending each shooting station . At the end of the shoot the hands will be tabulated and prizes will be awarded on Sunday afternoon.

There is camping in the area and I encourage people to bring your RV's if you have them . I am working on a couple bbq's so we can cook steaks and have some drinks and have a good old fashioned meet and greet on sat night! Now I shouldn't have to mention this but no drinking during the event will be tolerated ! You will be asked to leave and not refunded your entry fee!! After the event fill your boots and have fun tho!

I am starting the list and would ask that you prepay before the 25 of June 2014. I am accepting emt's cash and checks . I will be making up an entry form that will be sent out to you and will need to be forwarded with your payment . I will have all these details worked out in the next day here . If you contact me at highmark03@hotmail.com , I will forward the entry form to you . I have 40 spots open and by the amount of intrestested guys spots are filling fast !

This shoot is open to any caliber you have and the max distance we will be shooting is 500m with a few extra targets farther out if space permits!

I look forward to seeing everyone out there for this shoot and meeting some new faces ! As a side note I should mention that there is a good chance things could be muddy! So be prepared for this in the event it rains or we have a ton of water !

Steve

How much rounds will be needed
?
And are range finders allowed or just us?ing scopes

stevesummit
03-14-2014, 06:23 PM
Range finders are allowed and and a perfect run will need 15 rounds , you will be allowed 5 rounds per station for a total of 25 ! Now this is the numbers for a single hand so adjust accordingly if you buy more hands !

Fred I'll bring a cheater lense for you so you can see the retical in your scope !!

Gun Owners of Canada will be attending and Sponsoring the Event.

We have procured a Savage Rascal from Rouge River Arms http://www.rougeriverarms.com/ (site sponsor, check them out) and will be having this item for a giveaway during the event.

https://s3.amazonaws.com/savagefiles/firearms/models/900/C85cCi6JE_PVkS9382s.png

For those that don't know what a Savage Rascal is:

The perfect choice for a first rifle, the Rascal series is safer, more accurate and easier to use than most single-shot rifles. Key features include a manual safety and a simple chamber feed ramp that fits smaller fingers. Adjustable peep sights teach proper sight alignment and the rifle cocks itself safely by lifting the bolt. The adjustable AccuTrigger can be customized to teach proper trigger squeeze. Drilled and tapped for scope mounting. Available in black, blue or pink durable synthetic stocks, or in stylish hardwood. Overall Length: 31-1/2". Weight: 2.66 lb. Caliber: .22 LR.

Well the course is finalized for the trucks and quads ! The quad trail is a good one that will take you through some really nice country in west central Alberta ! There are some spots that could be a little tricky for the novice rider , and of course there is some mud along this trail but will be a good ride no matter your experience level ! The trucks will have an easy go of it on the road , but they will still have a good time !

There is one shooting station where everyone will have to hike about 75-80 m to the position but it's the only one like that on the course !

There is still spots open for more guys so don't sit on the fence and hear about how good this shoot was after the fact ! Come out and shoot it and meet the regular guys that hang out on here and enjoy a pig roast and a few drinks after your day of adventuring !

That's incredibly generous of you. :)

The rifle I'd planned to borrow from my friend may not actually be available as apparently now a friend of his is taking some leave time from the CF and the two of them want to do some shooting.

I've had so many offers to borrow guns, frankly, I'm overwhelmed. LOL. Gun owners really are great people. I'm honestly thinking at this point, I may just run my 7mm with the hunting optics and really challenge myself. I'm more along for fun and to learn about long range shooting than to win anyways. :)

An Amazing shoot, Thank you Steve and Shane for organizing and the rest of the RSOs for working their stations!

I was RSO'ing station 4, it was really great to be apart of this shooting event, I'll be there next year forsure.

By the time I got him I was Brunt beaten bruised but I was still smiling from meeting such good people and having so much fun.

And yep my Stock Savage 308 rang the gong at 1200 yards.

BTW $7000.00 dollars in prizes thats insane for a first year. Everyone walked away with something, some people 2 prizes.

I already signed up for next year.

First of all a HUGE shout out to Steve for letting me use his .223 because without that gun I wouldn't have been able to participate...and to everyone that was involved, and to those who donated towards the $7,000 in prizes! Wouldn't have been able to participate in this beyond mind blowing event if it wasn't for the effort put in from all of the sponsors, RSO's, coordinators, and volunteers, etc. This was definitely one of the top best experiences of my life :) The most I've shot at was maybe 45-50m with a .22 and proud to say as a first time long range shooter hit all but 3 targets which includes the 1200!!! But was just a sinch away from the 1200, darn!

Thanks again to EVERYONE involved, and the participants in this years event. Cannot wait to make it to next year's poker rally! Count us in.

I second Snipezilla's huge thanks to Steve for the loan of his rifle. She's hooked on long range now so I guess I get to buy another gun! :D. We both learned alot and Steve noticing she's left eye dominant changed everything. She's now way more comfortable behind a gun and as such her accuracy will be better with everything she shoots. I was very impressed with her shooting ability and credit the excellent advice and instruction the experienced shooters gave her. Thanks so much to all of you.

Also a huge thanks to CanuckWR aka Duke, for letting me use his Coyote. It was a privilege to shoot such a top of the line firearm. He also spotted for me and gave me pointers on technique. All that put together enabled me to shoot consistently at shorter ranges and then to make a first shot hit on the 1200m target, my longest shot to date.

Altogether, the shoot was an incredible experience and I think I now have a new hobby. A big thanks to all the sponsors involved, it was great to get to meet you guys in person. Thanks to Steve, Shane, Nathan, Bob and all the other RSO's and volunteers that were involved in making this happen. Thanks to Patrick putting on the pig roast, which unfortunately we had to miss due to needing to get back to GP, but I've heard it was excellent.

I can't wait to be back next year and by then I should have a rifle of my own built.

Another thanks to everyone involved in putting this together. We need more of these get togethers and more chances to push the range limits. It was too much fun.

Lol...no problem Duke. Anything to help. I tried to offer "motivational criticism" to all the experienced shooters when required. At least Flying High made a first round hit at 1200 yards with that fancy rifle of yours!!

Good on Flying High as well as only two shooter through the entire day may first round hits at 1200m. I believe it was him and Greg from ATRS. Might have been Dustin but one of them owes the other a bottle of whiskey now.

By the way, Thanks for the bottle Duke. The wife and me enjoyed a glass or two last night. It was a fantastic way to close out the weekend!!

Steve, Thanks to you and the RSO's for the great shoot! It was me (Greg) who made the shot from ATRS - its Dustin who owes the Whisky!
Good course of fire, fun quad trails and a huge prize table!
Thanks to all the sponsors, I ended up winning the Zombie man crate so I'm looking forward to getting that crate open.
And a special thanks to the guys who cooked up the pig roast for us, awesome food guys.

Hope to see everyone next year.

Great job by everyone involved! Well organized, fun event. Thanks Steve and Shane for setting up a fantastic time! The volunteers all stepped up in a big way. The sponsors were generous and helped pave the way for bigger and better events for years to come. Next year will be a huge family weekend that I'm looking forward to!

It took us a fair amount of time to set up the course. For those that enjoyed the quad routes, imagine how much scouting had to be done to find the right routes that were fun and challenging. They also had to into each other to continue on to the next firing line. There was a lot of time put into this event and it showed. As a sponsor, I'm proud to have donated and will step up more for next year!

Also as special thanks to Rick at ATRS as I now don't need to purchase a range finder!

Looking at how that thing is glued and nailed together.... I'm thinking forget the crowbar and use Tannerite (Shockwave)! There is a fine line between too much and too little for this type of delicate task.....

I'll keep you posted, might keep the Shockwave for another day and just try a 36" crowbar.

The most frustrating thing about those damn crates is that all the tools you need to get into the Zombie one are in the damn thing!! Andrew gave me one for Christmas and after I got into it I wasn't sure it was actually a present anymore. I needed a nap afterwards! Mancrates is on my list for gift giving now. You should check out the website, some cool packages.

Thanks to everyone at the shoot. My daughter Vicki and I had the best time we've had in a very long time. The eight hour trip was well worth it to meet and exchange discussion on everything from build ideas, parts, machining, quads, trucks, to the arts of domestic deception...............err, I uh, mean compromise and family harmony!:cool1:

Next year, we plan on allowing more time for this trip to stick around to help set up and tear down. Being in the early stages of trying to set up something similar to this myself (though not as dynamic), I can see the hours and hours put into it before and after the event. This one deserves more from me and I'm sorry I couldn't hang around. Looking forward to next year!

Prizes were unreal! From what Vicki and I brought home and what I can remember, I would like to extend my deepest appreciation to; Henry at Nature's Corner Store (thanks for the Vortex precision rings!), Outdoor Pursuits Canada for the hoodie, t-shirts, hats, & stickers, AmmoSupply.ca. Briden Solutions, Tactical Capital, Anderson Arms and the many others that contributed - you've all made this inaugural event amazing and beyond expectation!

A great bunch of guys and gals who made a couple of "unfortunate residents of the flat, boring, lifeless, snoozer of a province (I think there were a few more...;D) between Alberta and Manitoba" feel very welcomed. I simply can't say enough about our experience this weekend.

It hardly gets better for this old guy - my thirteen year old daughter, Vicki and I shooting / spotting together:
