After an afternoon of busting clays, there is always a large pile of shell hulls leftover. Are the cheap target/multi-purpose hulls good for reloading? I've always wanted to make a string of 12GA xmas lights, but the wife won't have it.

Yes they work, Blacksmithden and I have used them before with his homemade slugs

I've loaded O, OO and OOO buckshot in them, as well as slugs. They're so plentiful, I never reload a hull more than once. So far, probably thousands of rounds later...no problems. I do like the Christmas light idea. I'll have to make some up for the man cave. My wife would lose her mind if I hung them outside the house. LOL !
