Under the rear sight on the receiver there's an inset, it should have the last two digits of the year of manufacture stamped on it behind a proof mark. 2007 and up (reclassified) have a large inset, approximately square, 2006 and older (still non-restricted) have a smaller inset, a round ended rectangle, approximately the height of the hole in front of it, also with the year stamped. I'll find a picture if this doesn't make sense.
I'm not sure about serial numbers above the trigger.

You're welcome, and congrats:); but yes, there are many firearms owners in Canada that find that little stamp to be very expensive presently:(.

Yes, this is true? Neither I nor the OP is suggesting altering a serial number?

Hmmmm that just got weird.

yep,...

altering a serial number is an offence in civilian regulations... proof marks, well, it is legal for manufacturer to proof mark, re-proof mark or licenced or authorized by manufacturer to proof mark or re-proof mark. Gunsmiths as well. proofing houses. armourers.

I have re-serialized, serialized to match, proofed and a few other actions with multitudes of guns.
there was not much of a process of action when working for the government, just do it, get it done to match and conform.
gunsmithing, same deal for components if even desired or required, a bit more paperwork for main serialized frames / receivers / components.

definitely two different worlds of rules and actions.
