I took a few different rifles out today and near the end of my session I clipped one of the rods and the screen with a 55gr FMJ. My SPARC was working intermittently (I'll get to see what Vortex warranty is like) and on one of the shots where it went dead I clipped the chony. Maybe that is what BUIS is for.:o It still works though so it won't be too costly to fix.

I tried my 17FB through it and then realized I was 1gr under my pet loads (still getting over 4000fps) so I'll have a bunch of bullets to pull. My .257 Roberts AI was faster than I guessed with a 5 shot average of 3735fps with 75gr V-Max bullets and 45gr of XBR and Winchester magnum rifle primers. Some good and some not so good today.

I've heard a wooden dowel from the hardware store works
well as a replacement.
Much better to shoot a sunscreen, as opposed to a
display screen. :)

Should work since the system is optical anyway.

Excellent idea. I think I might even have some in a similar diameter.

You only clipped it. I put one through the heart of my CED M2.

Another Sparc not working properly?

Well so much for that idea.

As far as the chrony goes, thats just a flesh wound. ;)

Mine was one of the first ones here in Canada. I haven't been keeping up, has there been issues with them?

It seems to. I put some more FMJ through it and then clipped it again with a 124gr plated bullet. Duh. Still seems to work and I called it quits after that.

Hahaha as a new shooter and reloader I got a chrony, but live in fear of shooting it so I'm totally anally careful about not shooting it. I only use it with bolt guns, so I always remove the bolt and peek down the barrel - sometimes before every shot. I still expect to do like you some day.

When you have it out at a decent distance like I did looking through a scope with cross hairs on the lowest setting you can see the wires pretty good. It was the two without conventional scopes that threw me for a loop.

Over on CGN I seem to read about how great Vortex's warranty on them is all the time.

I prefer a product I don't have to send back. ;)

Wow...these things seem to get hit a LOT ! LOL. Sorry about the mishap KDX...hopefully whatever you decide to go with for a repair is fairly cheap.

I haven`t shot mine yet but i feel it will only be a matter of time. Most things in front of a rifle get hit sooner or later.

Plastic/wooden replacement rods will give better survival odds for the chrony itself during a future oops. Or so they say.;)
