hello folks

I have bought some 500 series plate and will be getting some targets ready in the coming weeks .This is still in the start up phase but we will be offering these targets in various shapes shortly . I hope to beat some others on pricing, but its the shipping that will be the killer on these. We will update the post when I am closer to having a finished product ready !!

How will they be cut? I have been disappointed with plasma cut ar-500 plates, the edges tend to splinter and spall off.

I am looking for either water jet or underwater plasma table to keep the edged tempered . I did a batch of AR 400 for Genesee range and it was the same problem, cutting with the torch took the temper out of the outside 1/2 inch, and I cut as fast and cold as I could but it didn't change the outcome.

Well the steel is cut and sitting on a pallet , I will be braking down costs and posting pics of these targets with in a day or two ! These were cut on a water jet so the steel is still tempered rite out to the edge. No more soft spots to crater . They are cut from ar 500 5/8 thick . I would say they are 338 LM proof. But I haven't taken them out yet to test this theroy, I will be testing them when I get home from work ! I can get special designs or shapes cut on request. I would need a detailed drawing of what you want, there would be some turn around time on this but it can be done . Any questions feel free to pm me or zombie girl and we can help you out

Just bought myself 2 of the 8" plates! Hope the shipping to Calgary keeps me under 3000 *finger's crossed*

Am I safe to shoot these with FMJ 5.56? What about 7.62x39 surplus? I'm considering these "targets for life" so I won't have hurt feelings if the official advice is to avoid steel core 7.62

Anything past 200 meters you should be good to go with 7.62 surplus.

I've shot 7.62 steel core surplus at mine from 50 yards with absolutely no problems.

Well I am glad they work as advertised !! As for hanging them its easy bolt through hole , few chain links and para cord over your stand

OutdoorPursuitsCanada

I use paracord - chains got all shot up. Every once in a while somebody gets cheeky though and tries to shoot the paracord... ;)

I'm thinking deep sea fishing line that won't go down under the splash

Go to Peavy mart or Princess Auto and get some 3/16 in dia cable and 4 cable clips. I think 50 feet was $8.

the biggest thing is to attach from the back this way splash wont cut the para cord .

Derp. I can see Princess Auto from my office.

I'll check them out tonight!

I should have updated a long time ago!

Princess Auto's cable and mounting brackets cost me $12 all in.

And the targets worked swimmingly this weekend. Even the girlfriend was able to ring the gong a few times!

Did it leave craters? With my AR500/550 targets SS109's will leave craters when shooting any less than 400+yrds... I also find that any non-frangible .223/5.56 tends to do the same thing at less than 200yrds.

stevesummit
05-06-2013, 10:07 PM
it didn't crater in a traditional sense, it was more like 1/64" dimple same as the hits from my 338AI, but polished up more from the steel insert. I wont come on here and claim that these will last forever with ss109, but they do hold up way better then normal mild steel

Very nice.... quality steel is worth every penny.
