So as most of you seen 50cal's new lever, and since we are starting to reload together I figured I couldn't be left out of the 45/70 club so I bought this

It's a baikal mp221, I've never had a sxs center fire and I'm looking forward to using this spring on a nice black

I have the same beast in 30-06. It's a little spartan, but I don't think I'll ever be able to justify the cost of a "high end" double rifle.

Out of curiosity, I understand that doubles are "regulated", so how are the Baikal's regarding that? Do they specify a load or is that part and parcel of working a load up? How do you manage it if no matter what they are off- do you intentionally shoot one barrel for accuracy and keep the other as reserve?

Nice looking rifle, BF.

Good question, from what I read the baikals regulate fine. I will be working up loads for it I'm hope that it's going to cross paths at around 100yds

There's a jackscrew in between the barrels that gives some adjustment.
Oh and I wouldn't run hot loads through this action.

Not sure about this gun but most russian guns are beech stained to look like walnut, and with their price point, I understand.

It's been a long stint, I need to go home lol, as for the stock I believe it is walnut, not as nice as cz walnut :) as for lead I'm just getting into the reloading so I don't cast yet, I guess I'll figure it out when I get home

Well aint this just the coincy doink in nature...I am sitting here with a bunch of cast lead slugs with a MT Chambers business card on them.Buddy of mine gave them to me a few years back to crank outta my .458.I already have a nice load worked up with my 500 grainers so heres the deal for that 45-70 bug and how to beat it.They were given to me,I dont want them so pass them along...free of charge of course.looks to be about 50 rounds of 340GR HP,alloy is medium, sized at .459....and approx 50 rounds of 480 GR WFN GC (gas checked) alloy x hard sized at .459 also.If you can use them let me know...Pay the shipping and they are yours...

meh dont worry about returning the favour..its all good...pm me your shipping addy and I will send em to ya...once you get them then just reimburse for shipping..just post some groups if they work out good for ya...just counted them...there are 50, 340 grainers, and 54, 480 grainers. I am thinkin the 480 grainers are gonna be to heavy for your rifle..but only time will tell...

^^hey now lol, so to pass on the generosity I have a bunch 7mm I believe 160-180gr barnes, but not sure, I will double check when I get home, it's been a while since I've looked at them. There should be 100-150 count, I'll have to double check that as well. and since I no longer have anything In .284" who wants em? Just handle shipping and their yours, if no takers on here I will post in the freebies section.

I was just on Baikal's website and they don't list MRSP. Where is this rifle available in Canada? I've a hankerin' for a .45 cal of one sort or another. Had a #1 in .458 wm that loved cast bullets!

Mike
PS: can I ask ....how much??
Thanks!

Nice Double!!
Here I was waiting for a video of you touching off both barrels with some 1800fps hot 305 grainers. Ah well.
Been afflicted with that very same 45/70 bug. Third 45/70 rifle is a 34 inch Pedersoli 1874 Sharps competition. It seeks the 1000 yard target. It still sits unfired since Dec 24.

Ha forgot about this thread, let's just say a lot has happened between then and now. Work has been nuts, family life has been equally just as crazy. I have a couple months off come march so I'll get some range time in then. Im hoping to add a marlin lever to the 45/70 family by then too. as of summer my m1's and m14'a have been getting all the lovin, too many guns to shoot and not enough time.

I have a 1895GS marlin 45-70 and I now have the sickness bad! I've already planned my next 3 45-70 purchases haha.
Good lookin rifle by the way.

I have one in 30-06 and heavier load are hard on it, they make it hard to open the action. They are fun to play with though and cheaper to shoot and practice with then my 470 Nitro.
