View Full Version : Brian Lilley on the Back Door Registry - Flaunting of bill C-19

I told you yesterday that this was a back door gun registry, a shadow registry regardless of what weasel words the provincial politicians or the permanent bureaucracy said. I hate to say I told you so but…..I told you so. Despite trying to tell Sun Media that he wasn’t trying to hang on to gun registration data Ontario’s Chief Firearms Officer went on CBC and said he will do just that....

Is it possible that the Conservatives had a crystal ball, and played it smart?
They knew the public wouldn't swallow a complete repeal of C-68.
"Let's do something to majority agree with, or are indifferent to. Let's
dismantle the registry."

They also knew, it is exceedingly difficult to shrink a bureaucracy, and
the bureaucrats would resist, with any means at their disposal, the
dismantling of their little empires. They might go so far as to disregard
the law, as they are doing here.

This conceivably gives the cons the example they needed; "See, we
tried to let you continue to exist, but it must be within new constraints."
"As you can't work within these guidelines, you no longer have a place here"

Then they have the ammunition to completely re-write the laws, with
a very concrete example of what doesn't work, and create something
that does.

Or, at least that is my pipe-dream.

It seems Solomon Friedman thinks along the same lines.

I believe a great many CPC Mp's want more. I believe those at the helm want more power and a longer term. When push comes to shove IMHO we have seen the results. c-301 couldn't get party support.

I believe with enough shooters giving pressure anything is possible, so far close too enough got involved, as we saw with Skid Mark, but not enough to change anything aka death of 301.

If anyone believes the ending of the registry was more than symbolic, well....................................
