Lee Hardcastle presents a three-minute-long homage to Gareth Evans' The Raid starring intensely violent clay cats.

Two quick notes before we get to the story: First, you should know that the following clip contains a ridiculous amount of gore. In context itís not gratuitous per se, but you still probably shouldnít show this thing to your kids. Second, yes, we realize this isnít exactly hard news, but itís Saturday night, nothingís going on, and the Internet loves cats.

Alright, now for the interesting bit.

Hopefully by now youíve all seen Gareth Evansí The Raid. We say ďhopefully,Ē because given that itís a foreign-produced action film, there is likely only a small number of you even aware that it exists. If you fall into that camp, the short version is that The Raid is an Indonesian thriller/action movie comparable to Die Hard, only with better stunt work and decidedly less Bruce Willis. IMDB describes the plot thusly: ďIn the Jakarta slums, a derelict apartment building has become a no-go area Ė even the police are unwilling to enter. It has become a safe-house for the most dangerous killers and gangsters. A SWAT team infiltrate the building, under the cover of darkness, to remove its owner Ė a notorious drug lord named Tama.Ē

In its 101 minute run-time, many, many people are shot, many, many people are stabbed and many, many people are disabled in horrifically gruesome fashion by a SWAT team that seems to have been trained by an angry Tony Jaa. In sum, itís an intense, visceral action flick, the likes of which we donít really see here in The States anymore.

Unfortunately, as I said above, itís an Indonesian film and thus hasnít had that much exposure in America. In an effort to change this and simultaneously homage the film, a man calling himself ďLee HardcastleĒ has decided to recreate the film in claymation, with a few minor changes. For instance, the original film does not star cats, nor does it center around a massive catnip farming operation. Also, I could be wrong, but Iím pretty sure the climactic showdown doesnít end with the lead bad guy chasing a ball of yarn out a window.

Anyway, the crucial point here is that Hardcastleís vignette is hilarious, brutal and well worth a few minutes of your time. After all, youíre surfing the Ďnet on a Saturday night; itís not like you have more important things to do.
