Anybody know of any classes available in Calgary to learn how to tan hides?

I don't know about Calgary but I saw an ad in Banff this weekend for just such a thing.

If anyone's interested in this sort of thing in Winnipeg, there's a guy advertising classes at the Wholesale Sports bulletin board. Several going on from now until Christmas.

Picked up this at Shoppers Drug Mart the other day. It has a decent brain tanning tutorial inside, along with some other good articles. I think I might give it a go if I have my new shop by next fall. Provided they allow deer hunting in MB next fall....:(

I tanned some deer hides a few years back. Never again. Way too much work. It's $200 to have it done by a pro... Well worth it imho ymmv.

There is several videos on you tube showing the hair removal and the pigs brain tanning of a deer hide. Looked pretty simple. Then you can wood smoke it and it will outlast you..

I used a different method... That said, I'll save you trying to understand my incoherent ramblings and say there's lots of info online. ;)
