Anyone use one of these? They sell for $150 on Cabelas.ca but sadly after the TINY shipping costs and the inflated "heavy weight fee" of $21 plus the $15 shipping and then another $22 of HST it brings the price over $200! :(

Sure sounds nice though:

I want to order it but that HST is pissing me off. The "Free Shipping" from Cabelas will only cover the $15 shipping charge, and not the $21 heavy weight fee though.

If you've got access to a ranch, don't they have a toolhouse and a few tons of scrap metal lying around for making frames and targets? :D

Not always. Most of our metal was sold for scrap back when there was a hay depression.

Think of the shooting you will get out and do when you have it.

I got almost $900 tied up and steel and frame holders.

Haven't been getting out and using them, though............

i am trying to source out some one with a water jet or underwater plasma cut table to burn out some targets for me , but its getting the real 500 series plate that's the issue.

BJB and MattMoser on the Nutz forum is where I got my stuff from.

No one around here (GP) had any AR500 or was willing to bring in the amount I wanted.

I have a line on AR500 plate,

I wanted to try and make a couple targets like the above to sell through GOC. It's still a work in progress but it would be cool to have some sweet GOC gongs with our logo flow jetted into the bottom of it...

Right? Hells ya! Lol

Dont' get all caught up in the AR500 idea .. you can use AR400 just as easily.
If you hang your target off your chains at a bit of an angle, you will never know the difference.
Try it, you just may like it :-)

Make sure you get targets cut with water jet. Plasma cut targets will fail on you. My friend managed to kill one of Matt Mosers targets.

With ar 400 I did manage to kill it after a 20 shot string it had a curve to it much like a bananna . Also since there is a range of hardness (380-435 brinell) plate on the softer side will still suffer and have shoot throughs

Sounds good just make sure you shoot it with cast lead or from distance with center fire as it will pit and crater. And splash back will happen

yeah, i'll be shooting it with my 7mm Rem Mag from 300+ yards. i'll be hanging the gong at an angle as well to deflect rounds into the dirt.

7mm Rem Mag? As long as you use the softest tip bullets you can find then the carbon steel should last you a bit. But even on an angel 300 yards isn't all that far. You'd want to make sure it's a pretty good angle :D

Ditch the chains. We tried EVERYTHING for hanging gongs at Genesee. The most practical thing we found was paracord. The chains break from the shock, or getting hit and they're a pain to rehang in the field. Paracord...just cut off another piece and tie it on.

Chalk up another use for paracord. I think that puts it about 96,654 uses now.

For a few of the shoots we had. We used bungie cords and they work very well also
