You probably want to post this thread in the modern military rifles forum rather than the hunting rifles forum though!

What's your budget like? Not having an RPAL eliminates the easiest recommendation: A Norinco M4 clone is a great place to start 3-gun.

Some basic tips:

Make sure whatever you get is STANAG compatible. You want to be able to use pistol magazines.

Get lots of ammo at the same time!

If you're prepared to spend the cash I'd recommend something like the Tavor or the XCR.

If you're looking to stick around the $1000 mark you could try an SU-16, or a Vz58 with the magwell conversion, or a Norinco T97

What about the pistol? Doesn't a guy need pistol in 3 gun? How are you going to get one without RPAL?

Well, I traded a 1999 KX100 for it. So maybe a $1500 value. It's non restricted, so yes a regular pal is all you need. I changed the scope, stock and a few other things, but this is how it sits:

That's a good point, I know they let people borrow pistols in some competitions, they would just have to be in different groups shooting at different times.

If it was me I would wait to get my rpal and buy norc cqa for $600 all in and use that for comp and still have enough money to get a decent pistol which you can use in the comp also. But all depends on what suits you man
