Which ones are best?
Which ones to avoid?
Where do I get the best deal?

Only problem I have with my norc is there is only one mag!

The best ones are stamped AIA and hold ten rounds.

That is all I know

After doing some searching, it appears as if the AIA 10 rounders are no longer in production and used ones are commanding a stupid premium. I found a few used 5/20s here in town that I will be taking a look at today.

If Ruger had been smart they would have designed the Scout mags to fit the m14, but then they don't have to deal with the same level of stupid on a national scale in the USA so they most likely would have never put 2 and 2 together.

Or if somebody designed a conversion for the m14 to take scout mags...

Nope, and for the same reason you can't pin a PMAG to 10. :(

Yes read my post above you I was typing before I was thinking. So to explain for anybody that doesn't know, rifle mags in a semi auto are limited to 5 rnds, pistol mags are limited to 10 rnds, you can use pistol mags in a in rifles. Ie: lar mags, glock mags for jr carbine

To further elaborate:

Rimfire rifles (regardless of action) have no magazine restrictions
Rimfire pistols are limited to 10 rounds
Centerfire rifles that are not semi-automatic have no magazine restrictions

Our laws are based on what the magazine is DESIGNED for. Use of the magazines in a gun other than the one they were designed for is not regulated.

Hmmm, maybe this information is good for a sticky - i'll type something up in the general firearms section

To further elaborate:

Rimfire rifles (regardless of action) have no magazine restrictions Unless that mag will function in a pistol
Rimfire pistols are limited to 10 rounds
Centerfire rifles that are not semi-automatic have no magazine restrictions

It is a very complicated issue

I heard CMI made M14 mags are USGI spec and used by the us mil. Quality and reliability is supposed to be "better" than norc and they just came out with 25 rd versions just havent seen anyone bring them in to Canada. (Pinned to 5 of course).

CMI = USGI, they also make the mags that come with new Springfield M1As and Armalite AR-10s.
I picked up several CMI 25 rounders for both when they first came out a few years ago, they are very nice.
I keep a box of mixed 20 & 10 round Norinco/Poly Tech mags as spares, they are also very nice.

So anybody got a line on some mags? If you found or find some I'm in the market for a few.
Thanks

I'm still looking for mags as well.

I had an idea... what if a guy were to make 10 round AIA polymer mags? There'd be a pretty good demand for those, I'd bet. 5 round mags wouldn't have a lot of demand unless you could make them reasonably priced.

Funny yrs ago when I first purchased my Springfield M1A it came with a 5/5 and a 10/5 round magazine ... I purchased a couple 20/5 rounders thinking I'd like and love to use them ... I honestly can say I've never used the 5/5 rounder(collecting dust in my gun cabinet) and tried the 20/5 rounders only to shelve them too. I like the look of the 10/5 rounders and they don't hurt when carry my rifle on my back. If only we could have them as REAL 10 rounders instead of being pinned to 5.

Why they went with AI clone mags is beyond me. I have heard that because of all of the differing m14 mags out there that it might have caused issues, which is probably true, but they could have sold their own version of the mags. Not being able to topfeed easily, or run from a clip charger guide is so dumb, they could have built this onto the front sight. I believe there are Alpha Industry mags that are double stack topfeedable so I will probably pick one of those up

The other day when I was firing my SVT40, and charging it via clip, it reminded me of how critical this functionality really is. If you have a jam, just pull the cartridge and feed it back into the mag and you're done.

The 5/5's have a purpose, you can swap the follower into the 20 round mag but you'd have to pin it or you'd be in possession of a normal capacity magazine
