I have a 2005 1895gs. Havent hunted with it yet, hopefully this year. Going to start reloading this year, so I may go heavy cast. So many ways to go with the 45/70. I'll keep an eye on this thread, nice to learn from the guys that have already done it.

Good choice that Marly ! The new 250 gr Hornady ammo with GMX bullet is now avail too ! Deeper penetration then the light jacked 325 ammo - just got some and have i shot it - i will chrono both loads and do a penetration test and post them ! cheers Rem

I am shooting a 1985 GBL.

Loading and shooting 300-500 as well. M.T Chambers is offering a 550 grain bullet for the 45-70 now. Might have to try it.

I'm trying the 550 gr WFN GC at 1650 fps, and will use it on bear in a couple of weeks.

Just one question: how is that on the shoulder? I'll also be interested in review of how it performed on the bear hunt.

What are you loading behind that 550 gr WFN - what powder and grs -also primer and case ? Cheers Rem

I load with the W-W case as it has the most capacity and AA2015 powder, my 1895 is the "Cowboy" version with 26" barrel, std. LR primers, heavy crimp!

I have a Marlin 1895M that I intend to kill moose/bear with this fall. I know its not a 45-70 but it'll fling the same bullets, right? The only thing Ive fired thru it is factory Hornady 350gr flat nose and some Leverevolutions. I like this gun alot. It's a JM stamped non ported 450 marlin with a 18.5" bbl. I put a Skinner express sight on it and it shoots a 4" group at 100yds with my truck as a rest ;)

I've been using Nosler Partition, but they don't make them any more. I have 400 left then have start looking for another bullet
