Alright.
Whoever the engineer is at Ruger who thought up the idea of the current mini 14 sights should be strung up.
They're perfect, unless you need to adjust them!

I know the thread will derail to bacon, just saving people some reading.

Maybe if you lubed the adjuster?
You know, a dab of bacon grease in the right spot might be just the ticket...'

there 1st gen sights were nothing to write home about either. Pretty sure they were both designed with aftermarket optics in mind...

I like my mini-14's sights... Mind you I don't feel a need to adjust them.

Only wrapped around a lightly seasoned deer tenderloin....yes it was delicious. I made the mistake of cooking both tenderloins in one evening, gave me a bad case of the meat sweats.

Are the new sights weird? The old ones I adjusted the detent with a bullet tip?

I have a 186 series, they are not great but once you get used to them anything within 150yards is reasonable. I think ruger had no desire in those days to make anything but sporting guns. They are not fast sights, and hence the mini was out of the tactical market for some time. still playing catch up IMHO.

the rear sight has an itsy bitsy screw on each side for adjustment. Loosen one tighten the other type deal...

Sounds quick, toolless, repeatable and intuitive. Yikes.

I like how the older minis can take a m1 carbine sight. Love those sights.

Mini 14 iron sight accuracy = a broad side of a barn...
Hence why farmers love them so much :p

Says the (former?) su16 owner!
That thing was an accuracy lemon. Also had a stupid rear iron sight that adjusted like the mini's sight iirc.

Have you owned one?
I have and have had more than a few. I have no issues hitting what I'm aiming at...

I don't have a problem hitting what I'm aiming at with the first shot, it's the 7th or 8th that tend to go squirrely. Still a fun little rifle.
