Has anybody had a chance to try the new .17 cal. Hornet yet and if you have, please post some of your thoughts (a short review).

I haven't tried it but I have an opinion anyways :P .17's are a total PITA to clean, and most of them do need frequent cleaning. In this neighbourhood, I do much prefer the .204 Ruger, which I have owned and like. Bit more powder to use, but wayy better speed and higher BC bullets.

I have a .17 hmr and my son has a .204. He does his own reloading a shoots for about the same price as I do. The .204 is an amazing cartridge, but I still really like my .17 and haven't found cleaning to be an issue. I shot around 40 coyotes with it last winter. I am just very interested in how the 17 hornet will compare in range, accuracy, how loud it is, etc.

The hmr is alright but I will be getting a 17 hornet when I find one. I dont find cleaning to be a problem as I clean my hmr every few hundred rounds and it only takes a minute to do. I like the speed of the hornet and it will cost less then hmr as I can load for it. Plus its quieter then the 223.

I have a 17 Hornet
Love it
fast flat shooting its in the savage model 25 light weight varminter
300 yard gopher gun easily
I put a 4.5x16x50 burris on it
a 22 has more recoil then the 17 hornet
my nephew has the model 25 walking varminter
and his seems like plastic compared to mine
I shot a coyote the other day at 250 yrds
dropped it rt in its tracks
I cant say enough good about this little caliber
as for fowling its nill compared to a 17HMR
I reload for mine 10grns LILGun chronyed at 3850fps
average speed
I shoot dimes with it at 200 yrdss at the range

A cz in .17 hornet definitely has my eye.
But I will probably stick with .223s, for ammo availability.
