I have been eagerly awaiting this newly built rifle. I decided to go with Julien from Downrange Precision in Alberta after seeing all the killer rifle builds he's done, and the results his rifles get in competition. I went with this setup as a target rifle, that could also go hunting. It should be around 7-8lbs, I will be weighing it when it arrives next week. ;) Optics will be a Nightforce SHV 5-20x56 from Julien as well.

So here it is:

7mm Rem Mag
Trued Remington 700
Benchmark 9 Twist #5
GRS Adjustable Hunter
Mini Miller Brake
Timney Trigger
HS detachable box mag
Tungsten CERAKOTE

Nice rig!! How about a larger bolt knob? I have a hard time just using my fingers, nice to have a larger knob.

I will have to see when I get it, I haven't played with my knob yet...but you're right, who doesn't want a bigger knob. :P

I miss new rifle day.

Come to think of it, I've never actually bought a proper "NEW" rifle... SKS sure doesn't count. Going to have to fix that!

It made it here safe and sound...going to get a rail and some factory ammo for break in possibly tomorrow. Then off to the range this weekend. ;)

Took me a while, with moving and resetting up a reloading area, and a target range. Finally some headway!

I ended up putting a Nightforce 5x20x56 SHV scope on it with a Nightforce mount.

After loading almost 70 168 grain nosler Accubond long range bullets, with terrible results, I decided to try something different.

Page after page looking like these:

Next I picked up some Berger 180 VLD hunters and some H1000 powder, 2nd group did this...

Added a half a grain of powder.... and bam! Getting somewhere finally.

I've loaded up a bunch with this last load, so tomorrows plan is to find a longer place to shoot and see how it performs.

I will admit that I am not a fan of rem anything but that rifle does look good.
Some day we shall get together and stretch the new rifles legs.

I have to admit, I didn't really want a Remington action, but it knocked a lot off the build cost so I gave it a go. I'll be around 70 and 100 mile all winter working, I'll bring rifles. ;)

Getting somewhere I think! I wish the stock was a bit lighter weight though.

Gave 200 yds a go, the top shot is the cold bore, it was almost going really well until one high and one low ruined it for me. I'm trying to learn shooting prone at the same time here too.
