Hi all,

In the next year or so I'd like to buy a rifle accepting AR-15 mags that is non-restricted. the Keltec Su-16 is at the top of my radar due to cost and some neat features. However, I also want to shoot cheaper surplus 5.56 NATO ammo that is being imported from China. Most Su-16's seem to be chambered for .223. Does anyone shoot 5.56 in a .223 rifle and what are the dangers? I know 5.56 has higher pressures but is it really that bad if you fire it in a .223 chambered rifle?

Thanks

I've just ordered my second SU 16 , first was sold. I called Keltec last year in regards to what it's chambered in. I was told that it's chambered in 5.56 but stamped .223 for export reasons. But you should call to confirm for yourself.

I shoot 5.56 in mine regularily, the su16 has the 5.56 chamber. Some say it doesn't cause problems if you have a .223 chamber some insist you will have a blow up sooner or later if you shoot 5.56, seems to be 6 of one half a dozen of the other. I would shoot 5.56 in a 223 chambered rifle but that would be my personal decision.

I under stood that shooting .223 in a 5.56 chamber is fine but shooting 5.56 in a .223 is not good. Having said that , all I use is .223 as that's all that's available to me.
