3, 5shot groups @ 100yrds, with a 2-7x scope. Front rested, no rear support. Not much wind, head on. 62gr Green tips, pmc brand iirc.
Obviously bad groups(but easy to bust clays with), but I judging from some I think it's gonna be capable of a lot better. AE tactical shot a little better.
I think the biggest issue was the scope, cranked up to 7x, the eye relief was way short and I wasn't as comfortable shooting and I'm willing to bet I had a poor eye alignment, resulting in off shooting.

Funny how there's a cluster of four and then one wild flier in each group.

When I miss, I miss big!
Also my first centerfire group of the season.

Also my first centerfire group of the season.
It's suprising how much that can count.
I've found it helps to take a known good rifle with a known good load to get into the swing of things before trying to get serious.
I've got a few entries in my load books,"First shots of the year, so maybe it's me." ;D

The bolt action 223 is coming out next week along with some reloads that shoot pretty good. It'll be therapeutic to see smaller groups.
I think the mini14 will be set aside till I can find a more favourable scope setup, then I'll break out reloads for it too.

the Mini's have come a long way since the old licorice whip barrel models for factory accuracy...

I put a Leupold 4-12x40 on my old 187 series but it was the cheek riser that made the biggest difference.

Having a solid cheek weld for a consistent sight picture was the shrinker in that case.

Hovering is never a small group affair :)

Have you got a regular Mini14 or one with the adjustable choke?:tounge:

Cylinder choke only!

Update:
So... yea... I broke my rule of not spending money on firearm stuff for a while and am purchasing a used Nikon Monarch 3 1-4x20 scope.
It has 4" constant eye relief and lots of ring mounting room.

You didn't break your rule, you just got corrective lenses ;)

I always wanted one of these rifles. That first group would have been great! Dang flyers . Like rockeye said do you have a good cheek weld? At the dollar store you can find thin 1mm foam pads then use vet wrap from peavey mart to keep it down.

I haven't shot it from the bench since the new nikon scope was put on it. But from the prone position doing a service rifle type shoot, yea... I have a chin weld.
Sitting or standing it's fine, but when I get on the ground, it's a chin weld.

Pipe insulation and camo(vet) wrap is what I use on my bolt 223. The wrap seems to have gotten sticky after a couple years but works.

It's sometimes very difficult to concentrate that hard for 5 shot groups. Thats why you usually see 3 shot groups. You could take a break between shots so each shot is fresh, and don't forget the Mini's barrel will heat up and start to walk pretty quickly even with the new series. I have one.
