Anyone have any ideas for an early warning system? I've used cheaper dakota digital driveway sensors before, but I need something with some long range beams to make roughly a 2-300m perimeter around the house. I don't want strings and tin cans....nothing lethal, just a detection system that is reliable, bonus points for magnet activated systems. ;) Whatever system I go with will be backed with cameras...nothing worse than a system dinging and not being able to see if its on 2 legs or 4. lol

PS this is mainly for my wife, it will make her happy.

Well, if you put in even a short or small mesh fence you could use this system - it works on vibrations associated with climbing and cutting

Other than that - i have a few 'magnetic' solutions that would work for short runs, but the problem is that whenever they're set off you'd have to physically go out and re set them. I'd be more inclined to go with some sort of motion sensor alarm angled to prevent being set off by smaller animals. Put some small post enclosures around and run those in between.

I see doing some web searches that there are some 'beam' devices, but it's not going to be terribly cheap.

Remember those air hoses step\drive on and the bell goes off? I believe they can be run quite far. So maybe a few of those so you get an idea of what side it's coming from? And it's mechanical, not electric dependent...

They've updated in a few ways looks like

With enough money, I can create anything. Cash only please. Some lasers, plcs, sensors, wire, ect.

I know for a fact that strategically placed lego's keep people from calling me Bobbit after some of my escapades that allow me to sleep on the couch downstairs by the fire.

That's actually pretty good to know...

You can get wireless surveillance camera systems that are pretty much plug'n'play and some even run on battery packs.

You could make something like this, but with the drought it could be a fire hazard.

The good news is I no longer need this... No disgruntled previous residents to worry about. ;)

Well.. that's much less fun. And we did all that research. Seems a shame to let it go to waste.

I could sneak up on weekends and spray paint mildly inflammatory statements on your siding if that'll help?

LOL - points for the mildly obscure pink panther reference :) and yeah - just pop out and randomly assault you with supersoakers and nerf guns to test your preparedness. Sneak up at night and see if you can catch me before I spray paint something on the side of your home, like "Your penmanship is atrocious, atrotious really bad!"

(i can't remember how to do strike thrus here :) )

LOL...I remember that

If yer on a budget you could have gone with a bunch of empty cans tied together with string. Makes quite the racket when someone trips over it.
