Alright, looking for input from people that may have had some experience with either of these two units. Looking for something inexpensive to play with, and these fit that bill.

The 2nd gen of the FLIR One for Android isn't available until "sometime in mid-August", and will run around $400 CAD, whereas the Seek is available now for $299+ tax.

Anyone out there actually play with either of these things? I'm not looking for something to hunt ISIS with, just a handy little gadget to use casually around the house and shop. The FLIR website has a bunch of suggestions of what it can be used for here: (http://www.flir.ca/flirone/content/?id=69506)

Pretty sure that's the first Gen FLIR ONE.

I could have sworn they expanded it for the Gen 2.

I've got a FLIR ONE, and a real Flir monocular, and there's a big difference in their night time performance. The major reason I'd use a FLIR ONE is because of it's MSX technology. It pulls in details from a visible light image and overlays them. So if you'lre looking at a panel box or something you can real the labels on what's hot and what's not.

In the dark, that goes away. So you're much more likely to get "thats a hot spot" and less "thats a coyote, dog, bad guy, sasquatch"

"It's not common sense until someone tells you."
(i.e. that's obvious, and it also would never have occurred to me as a limitation until you said it)

I have the Seek and a buddy has the Flir. I like the Seek more. It has better image resolution, handy modes, and the form factor is better in my mind because when you don't need it you stick it back in the little carry case and your phone can stay in its own case while you use it.
