Got my gun today. Mcmillan stock has a plastic insert held in with a wood screw. They are recessed about 5/16" Some kind of sling stud I'm not aware of or am I just screwed for a sling?http://i1287.photobucket.com/albums/a626/Hogwild12/cid_806_zpszemwellf.jpg

Or the adapter:

That is called "Flushmount base Cup"

Got it now. OKAY for in the field?

Best ones are from Grovtec and are threaded on the outside. You drill and thread the hole in the stock and epoxy and turn into the correct depth with a allen wrench. Look for GT™ HEAVY DUTY PUSH BUTTON SWIVEL BASES

Considering they are used by MIL I'd say so. My ar-15 has them built in, and so does my long range rig.

They're not bad, I do think there are better options out there, however (for the price).
