For absolutely no good reason what-so-ever I impulse-purchased this from Wolverine Supplies.

Merkel 140 AE in 470 Nitro Express.

And yes, my shoulder hurts.

If firearms purchase was based on "need" and not "want" my safe would have a lot more room.

Curious what the factory ammo costs?

I got some locally.......Hornady......solids were $170, softs were $137.....likely could find cheaper if a guy looked around. But I think these 40 brass will keep me going for a while, I got dies too...

Don't think he'll do well at the Poker Rally....

I want to chrony it one of these days, but I don't think I'll ever actually "bench" it.....that might set me back a grade. I think the most I'll do is shoot it off the bench with both hands on the rifle, no rest. And I freely admit I'll wear a sissy pad....this is where that Labradar unit will be handy I think...

"I want one." is a reason.
$137.00 is cheap. Starts at $140.99US at Midway. Special order?

Just had a look....lemme see here...If I pick one up tomorrow, I can sleep on the park bench down the road, subsist on squirrels and ravens, and after a "good"night's sleep at -30, I could go see the lawyer...on second thought...

Well, you'd only really have to subsist on squirrel samiches until you could panhandle enough change for a box of ammo and an annual zoo pass.....and maybe a hibachi.... Then bam! You only have to go 'grocery shopping' once a month, and you're rolling in enough free fur to make a coat....and maybe a yurt....

Need one in a deer caliber. 375 would do.

Well, it's only a 4 hour drive to Toronto...and they do have yaks at the zoo...

Hmmmm. Lets plan an Africa trip in 2018. You, me and the couch potato. 470 Nitro Express, 338 lapua mag and his new one in 338 Snipetac. Help cull those 200 excessive lions. Might be smarter for me to just take the Marlin Cowboy in 45/70.
Going to go look at the safari options now. Looked and they start at $6 g's all the way up to 40G.
Nice new toy by the way.

While the wood is certainly very nice, it's certainly not near what my Blaser has, I am guessing this is about a grade 4 wood.
Handles and shoots very well, which is to be expected I guess.
Armorman and I discovered that solids, shot through a 10" live poplar tree, leave the same little out-hole as the in-hole.
Another friend, on his first experience, doubled it!.....ouch!......although he is fairly stout and not squeamish, so no harm done.

That would make such a perfect gopher gun. I hate when they charge me and all I have is a puny 22 LR.

With penetration like that you might not even have to wait until they're above ground....

That's an amazing rifle!

I'm curious because I don't think I've ever seen one of those before. Do you have to have two separate sets of sights on the gun, or will both barrels regulate so the gun can shoot the same point of impact from a common gunsight?

They are regulated to a central sight. I can't recall how far out they typically cross over though....maybe someone who owns one will pipe up.

Only thing I would change about it personally is a red or orange rubber buttpad. Really a classy rifle!

I had a really nice petunia patch years ago and was told elephants liked to eat and tramp them into the ground so bought a 375 to be ready for them and they haven't shown up yet . Had to use it on deer.

Stunning work of art. What did your wife get? The last time I impulse bought something (just a little ole Lund 18.5 ft Tyee Gran Sport 220 hp I/O) I had to buy my wife a new Explorer just to shut her up. Which it did......
For a while ........

Hmmmm....old thread, but reminds me it's in the safe, I like that rifle.......
During the summer I chronied, chrony'd.......whatever that word should be...measured the speed of that Hornady ammunition. Softs were right around 2150 fps, solids 2100.....or the other way round, I forget just now.....
Chickened out on doing it off the bench at all. Tripod I used was able to hold the labradar unit up in position so I could stand-and-deliver. Appears to be regulated at 50 yards, at least with this ammo.
Haven't worked up a home-made recipe yet, one more on my list of winter projects, which of course I'm way behind schedule on....

I think Wolverine had a Krieghoff in 470NE on the line at their open house

Fun gun to shoot....once.

Mind you I saw a pretty small girl survive it, but that's the difference between being young and bendy versus old and stiff as a wall.

The Barret rifle kicked less.
