Alberta Poker rally shoot

Good day everyone

Just wanted to post up that it looks like the poker rally shoot is slated for July 9/10 2016! . The area is kind of central between Edmonton and Calgary for those that have not attended before !

The buy in will be 90$/per adult or 140$ for a family of four and kids under 16 shoot free for the two days of this event ,the shoot is open to families and we encourage everyone to partake . Once again supper will be provided but this year we would ask for 10$ for anyone that attends but didn't shoot , kids will still eat free of charge

Now the premise behind this event is you load your rifle on your quad or truck and take trails and roads to various shooting positions and engage targets at unknown distances. Then proceed to the next station on your map till you have completed the course. At each station you will engage targets that are assigned to cards that will be laid out at random by the rso that is attending each shooting station . At the end of the shoot the hands will be tabulated and prizes will be awarded on Saturday night.

There is camping in the area and I encourage people to bring your RV's if you have them . Now I shouldn't have to mention this but no drinking during the event will be tolerated ! You will be asked to leave and not refunded your entry fee!! After the event fill your boots and have fun tho! One change for this year is I will ask everyone to book their own stalls for the camping , the contact information for the camp site is provided on the entry form.

I am starting the list and would ask that you prepay before the 25 of June 2014. I am accepting emt's cash and checks . I will be making up an entry form that will be sent out to you and will need to be forwarded with your payment . I will have all these details worked out in the next day here . If you contact me at albertapokerrally@gmail.com , I will forward the entry form to you . I have 60 spots open and by the amount of interest generated by last years shoot spots will fill fast !

This shoot is limited to any round equal too or under a 300 win mag , and the average distance we will be shooting is out to 500m with a few extra targets farther out around 1200m.you will need 28 rounds for the whole event.

I look forward to seeing everyone out there for this shoot and meeting some new faces ! As a side note I should mention that there is a good chance things could be muddy! So be prepared for this in the event it rains or we have a ton of water !

Well, I finally got around to scanning and emailing in our forms and fees. We're really looking forward to the shoot this year. I just need to get a good recoil pad as my 7mm Rem Mag is pretty ignorant to shoot more than a couple times prone or off a bench. LOL.

So I took my Browning out to the range on Sunday to do the final dial in. Drove an hour and ten minutes...spent a half an hour setting everything up. Fired one lousy shot, and something locked up in the bolt and she wouldn't open. The bolt face didn't rotate out of the lug slots, and that was that. I haven't got time to look at it, so I decided to pull the pin. No..I'm not pulling the pin on the poker rally. I called up our very own Stevesummit at EM Precision and said it's time. One custom built long range rig build planned out and on the way !!!! I don't get back into town until the night before we leave for the shoot, so Im praying we can get a little practice in on Friday so I can get used to this new beast.

Chambered in 300 win mag
Remington 700 stainless action
Big ass heavy stainless barrel
EM Precision muzzle brake
Can't remember the name of the company that built the trigger
Some fancy ass chassis mount and adjustable skeleton stock that Steve talked me into
All topped off with a Vortex Viper PS2 scope

Just all the coolness and goodness that you can pack into a long range package. Pretty close to 6MT's rig from what I gather....slight variances.

The only thing that's going to possibly save you guys is the fact that the Friday before the shoot will be the first time I've ever seen, much less fired it. :)

Let the trash talk fly !!!!! BAHAHAHAHA !!!!!

We dont know if we'll make it this year. Once again, finances have crapped the bed. we alread paid up for registration and the site but i dont know if i can afford to take the day off work needed to drive down. :(

We'll be making the call probably the week of the shoot itself. I still havent been able to finalize a load for my gun either, nevermind get practice in...

Oh I know. i really hope we can make it. We were there for the first one and were pretty bummed out missing the last one. It's about a 4.5 hour drive from GP, so I'm thinking about possible leaving after work. That'd put us there somewhere around 930pm or so, give or take a bit. Then I wouldn't miss the day.

That reminds me BSD, I need to call about adding your name to the site reservation so you guys can share our site.

I showed Blacksmithden my targets from Friday morning, (first time I'd gotten a chance to fire the 300 win mag awesomeness that Steve from EM precision built for me- thanks again Steve !!). Anyway, the targets must have had a fairly large impact on him - I mean he was so intimidated he blew up his gun only an hour afterwards ....

Not even close. :(

I still have to test out a couple loads to settle on the one I want to use, then load up enough ammo to zero my gun and for the shoot. In order to do all that, I need to have time to get out shooting. I was gonna go yesterday but ended up snagging a much needed OT shift. I'll have to try to get out next weekend I guess.

Is there going to be a chance to sight in guns on either Friday evening or Saturday morning?

I'll be settling on a new load tomorrow morning, but between sorting that out and loading up enough rounds for the shoot I don't know if I'll have time to get my gun sighted in with the new load.

Im sure there will be a place to dial in on Friday. At least Im praying there is. :)

No, no, and NO !!! We need more than 100 yards to prove out the ballistic charts. :) Youve got a week. You just forget about that sleep thing and get swinging that trowel !!!! None of that usual half baked effort you're so famous for.

((For those who dont know him....this guy puts in more hours of work than anyone Ive known in my entire life....but thats no reason not to whip him harder.:) ))

There will be no time for zero's on Saturday morning folks . Please have everything dialed before you come down as it is really hard to work it in on Friday night with everything else we are trying to have organized and ready to go for Saturday morning

It was a great time, despite some nasty weather rolling in. Nothing like adding to the challenge of a long range shoot like pouring rain, rolling thunder and mist obscuring the targets!

I want to send out a huge thanks to Steve for organizing this shoot, to all the volunteers who gave up their time to RSO, to the cooks who made such an amazing meal and especially to the sponsors who helped to make such an awesome prize table possible.

Snipezilla and I had a great time both shooting and visiting with old faces and new. I'm sorry, I can't remember everyone I talked to but all of them were great folks. An extra thanks goes to Bear who loaned me a pair of Impact Pro electronic ear muffs to try out since I'm in the market for some. That act of generosity is what makes this community great.

The sponsors of the shoot are who really pull the shoot together, help make it possible and put up the awesome prizes. Snipezilla and I both walked away with shooting mats. Hers is very well designed mat made and donated by Red Star Target and mine is a lightweight, packable Eberlestock mat donated by Milarm. After playing a bit with each of them this morning, I recommend checking out both companies if you're in the market for a shooting mat.

We also each received patches and lanyards from Tactical Innovations, a patch from GOC and the famous Poker Rally Spice.

Huge thanks to those sponsors in particular from us. :D

Here's a few pics we took

Everything that FH said +++++ The bugs were evil on Friday....Saturday was rain, mud, lightening, thunder, and WHAT AN EPIC weekend !!!!!!! I loved EVERY minute of it !!!! To the volunteers who set this up, and to the prize sponsors, THANK YOU ! I know how much work it is to put on an event like this, and mere words can not begin to express the appreciation. I'm pretty sure he's a first time shooter. He tried hard, but even with that EM Precision rig on his side, he couldn't hit much. Maybe with some more practice and a new pair of pants, he'll do better next year. ;) :evil1:

My first time shooting the course, not the first time out though. I thought it was wonderful! In the wilds of Alberta, great people, and pretty challenging shooting. I finished the last two stages in a raging thunder storm with emense lightning and torrential downpours. And then the drive out was an equal adventure! I will definately go next year. And to those of you on the fence about this, you just need to experience the fun and people in this wonderful event.

Thanks to Steve and all of his accomplices who put together an epic event. Also a major thanks to all the sponsors who donated the swag that we all enjoyed. Congrats to Fay for the best hand and the new EM Precision rifle....I am jealous! To Richard...an awesome meal (I went back for thirds).

I hope this event keeps growing. For only the third year, it seems like these people have been organizing this all of their lives. It just went so smootly. Except for a little bit of a back-up at one of the stages, the trip around the course was very easy and smooth. The weather just added to the adventure! And the weather kept the bugs away.

Congrats to Steve and everyone who helped make this a memorable weekend.

It was a great weekend playing and shooting in the mud. Thankyou to all of the sponsors, GOC, and all the volunteers. Without all of your hard work and dedication we would not be able to enjoy each others company year after year. It was great to catch up with old friends, and meet a lot of new ones.
Thankyou to Tactical Innovations for the lanyard and patch.
And Thankyou to Milarm for the Eberlestock shooting mat.

First off, WOW! What an amazing event as always. Huge thanks goes out to Steve, the sponsors, and many volunteers. I was so thankful that FH and I were able to make it this year, and got to give the Tundra its first mud bath, bonus! Also huge thanks to the cooks for the insanely delicious roasted pig, potatoes, corn, salad, and dessert! FH and I had to duck out early the first year, and were unable to enjoy the feast boy did we ever miss out.. but not this year! Great prize table, and the first year we walked away with matching Outdoor Pursuits sweaters, and this year we got his & her shooting mats. Better make sure that you guys get more his and her prizes for next year ;) Because we'll definitely make sure to come out again, it's such a fantastic community. Always a hoot! Looking forward to seeing all the pictures and videos.

This event has been my most looked forward to weekend for the past 3 years. Surrounded by a great group of people all having a good time camping and shooting. Steve and the volunteers do what they can to have everything run smoothly and work hard to provide a fantastic experience. We've met some new friends and the kids enjoyed playing together while camping. The sponsors top off the event with their generosity and so will look to them first whenever I have needs. It just can't get much better than this!

Thank you Steve and Poker Shoot team!
