I got a Isreali K98 in 762. I decided to start putting on slings or buying slings for my rifles for supporting. Well I bought one for my K98 nothing special 20$ one from Tradex but holy un comfortable it is to shoot. You get the keeper in the right hand poking than a sling in your face.

Is there something Im doing wrong?

Here is the sling in my face. No change if I sinch it up. Still pokes my wrist and chin.

This sling has a button and you cannot sing it much.

I put one on my .22 and it's an awkward bugger for lefties too.

I need to find me a nice Jewish Mauser :)

If it has sling mounting then sling it.

Trade for? I have a sling but it sucks.

Well unfortunately its almost damn near impossible to really shoot with this sling setup.

Israel having used K98's just reminds me of a video I saw a couple summers ago of a Hamas fighter storming an Israeli outpost with a Tavor.

It seems a little twisted at first but I guess people make do with what they've got.

If I'm bench shooting I don't bother.

Might not help much, but have you treated it with some neatsfoot oil to soften the leather?

I had to work a pile of it into my Turner slings to make them useable.

I probably should.

Be aware that Neatsfoot oil will corrode metal over time. I have learned to never use it on anything to do with guns, knives, etc.

Save it for your leather boots.

I opted not to use it.

I never liked the K98k sling setup. I shoot from the left shoulder and the stupid sling keeper gave me a fat lip. I have seen pictures from Yemen, etc. where guys run a piece of leather or rope through the stock slot, and use it to attach a sling to the bottom. I have also seen K98's that had conventional swivels added, using a regular swivel in the butt, and a blob of weld added to the band and drilled out to hold a swivel.
