View Full Version : I'm Friggin Pumped!!! Ruger 77/357 On The Way!!!

So I have wanted one of these ever since I heard they were coming out, and finally found one in stock at Prairie Gun Traders, so couldn't stop myself. These guys have been excellent in the past so I went ahead and ordered this morning.

I already reload .357 so this will be a cheap plinker, and camp gun for me. Will be great for the cottage on the quads.

I have a Leupold 2-7x33 waiting to go on it for the range, but don't like putting scopes through the nightmares of quad trails around the cottage, so it will be easily taken on and off with the Ruger rings that come with the rifle.

Anyways I will put up some more pics, and a range report when I get it, but here is a pic off the net.

I'd love to have one, but its not in the cards for me anytime soon.

Dude, how is a $700 rifle a "cheap plinker"?!?! The Weatherby Vanguard S2 (guaranteed MOA) is more than $100 less! In 223, but still....

I can reload .357 magnum for half what I can reload .223 for.

The rifle isn't cheap, but it will be cheaper to shoot than every rifle I own other than the Savage MKII in .22lr.

For reference right now I have a .243, and a Mauser in 6.5x55, and even reloading I'm looking at around 50 cents a round.

My lead .357 magnum loads are around 20 cents a round. ;)

Can it shoot .38 Special? Theoretically, it should, provided that the mag will feed it.

From all the reviews, and video's yes it can shoot .38 sp, but for a reloader that is pointless. ;)

But yes it is relatively cheap to shoot for a centre fire rifle.

Just hope it makes it here before I leave for the cottage on the 31st. It is scheduled to arrive the same day according to CP, but the last 2 orders from Prairie Gun Traders arrived days before they were scheduled! ;)

Here's hoping.....

Seems like an interesting rifle.....I never even knew such a creature existed before I read this thread.

It was talked about quite a bit almost a year ago, and then it was never seen. With all the problems getting Ruger products these have come in to Canada few and far between, so there has been very little about it.

I started a thread asking when we are gonna see these, and was told apparently they were already around but in limited supply so I started looking, adn low and behold PGT(one of my favourite dealers) had it in stock.

Worked out well for me anyways. :p

I will post a range report and review when I get it of course. ;)

What does the magazine hold?

07-25-2012, 04:59 PM
I believe it holds 4. It is a rotary mag like the 10/22's.

From what I read about the 77/44, and the recent reviews of this gun, the thing is absolutely reliable.

That's the thing I was on the fence about with regards to this rifle. The small magazine.
A lever action 357, would hold more rounds.

I wonder why no one makes a bolt action center firearm with a tube magazine?

Well I got it, and initial impressions are good.

The fit and finish are a little less than I expected for a $700 rifle though, with some flashing on the stock, and the mag sticking a bit. The mag after loading a couple times has worked in fine, and I wasn't after a safe queen so the minor imperfections in the stock don't bug me.

As far as accuracy is concerned I have ony put about 25 rounds of American Eagle JSP and 10 of my own SWC's through it but at 25m off of the quad, and freehand shooting I am pretty damn happy.

I am up at the cottage for the long weekend so accuracy testing will happen next week when I can put the scope on, and rest the gun, and of course I will post a range report with pics! :-)
