Application: Click here (https://goccontests.weebly.com/coins.html)

Rules

The challenge is initiated by drawing your coin, firmly place it on the bar, table, or tapping it loudly (this should produce an audible noise which can be easily heard by those being challenged). If you accidentally drop your coin and it makes an audible sound upon impact, then you have just “accidentally” initiated a coin check. (This is called paying the price for improper care of your coin.)
The response consists of all those GOC members that have been issued a coin being challenged drawing their coin in a like manner.
If you are challenged and are unable to properly respond, you must buy a round of drinks for the challenger and the group being challenged.
If everyone being challenged responds in the correct manner, the challenger must buy a round of drinks for all those people they challenged.
Failure to buy a round of drinks is a despicable crime and will require that you turn-in your Coin to the Gun Owners of Canada Admin.
Only 100 coins have been made, there may be more in the future, but no plans at this time.
Application for Coin must be made by only Active users, in good standing, that are Registered to www.gunownersofcanada.ca (http://www.gunownersofcanada.ca/)

When-Where

Coin checks are permitted, ANY TIME, ANY PLACE.

Exceptions

There are no exceptions to the rules if you apply for a coin you accept the challenge. At the time of the challenge you are permitted to locate your coin if it is with the general area of where you are (same room)
If you still cannot reach it — Your Buying!

Tracking

Coins will be listed 1-100 (more possibly in the future) and updated as issued, lost, or turned in.

Loss of a Coin

A member that loses a coin, will not have it replaced, and can not reapply for a coin, unless the coin is a stolen in which case the member should contact [email protected]

Coin Turn in

A Member may turn in a coin for an extra entry into a giveaway that is listed as a extra giveaway entry. The coin holder must email [email protected] for mailing details and the coin must be mailed to the Administrator prior to the end of the giveaway. Coin turn in for Extra entry does not guarantee that you will win, it's all chance.

A Member may turn in a coin for $50.00 credit to the GOC store for instock items only. The coin must be mailed to the Administrator prior to the credit being issued.

Trading or giving a member your Coin

Not permitted, turn in your coin if you don't want it.

Reapplication for another coin

If a member is reapplying for a Coin after a Coin turn, only rule 8 and 9 will apply to Reapplication.

It wouldn't be a challenge coin, without it being worth while to get

4000 posts? Nope. Contributing excellence to the community? I've contributed, but don't know I'd label it as excellence. Looks like one of these coins is not in my future

zulu
08-21-2016, 08:50 PM
Okay so you can get one if other coin members nominate you. I thought that was in addition to the 4K posts

Yeah R&R rancher I think that's how it works... You certainly cleared that up for me.... In an excellent way I'd even say. Yup pure excellence on your part.

I read the entire post. You need to have 4000 posts or live in Alberta so you can buy drinks for a bunch of people and a few other impossible terms. The chances of talking to a Mod is right up there with being a contributor of excellence to the community when everything a person says a Mod jumps down his throat with another idea.

Gunny_Guns
08-21-2016, 09:40 PM
Cmon guys/gals.. GOC put up quite a bit of money to offer this to the members... Yes it may take some work to get, but it was not meant to be easy. We want this is to be a challenge to receive. We are not forcing anybody to participate, but we would definitely like everybody too. There will be some given away by: Admins, Moderators and you; the members.

I think rules 7&8 are essentially the same for the process, and 9 could be merged into it with a little re-wording. So three rules could be reduced to just one.

That's okay, I knew I had over 4,000 posts but didn't mention it in the "reason" box because I thought they were just asking for my opinion on why I wanted a coin.

While I thank everyone for the enthusiasm of wanting a coin.

Applying doesn't mean that you will a receive a coin.

You have to fall into one of the 9 categories.

1. All Admins or former Admins will receive the lowest number coins available at the time.
2. All Moderators will receive the lowest number coins after admins available at the time.
3. Former Mods on good terms and active with GOC may apply for a coin.
4. Members with 4000 or more posts and on good terms with GOC may apply, OR
5. Dealers and Manufacturers may apply but submit a valid reason for application, OR
6. Members may apply for a coin if, 5 (five)coin members put their name up, stating they speak for the member as contributing excellence to the community, and stating what they have done. (must be approved by admin), OR
7. Members may apply for a coin if, the member has spoken to 3 (three) Moderators, those moderators agree to speak for the member as contributing excellence to the community, and stating what they have done. (must be approved by admin), OR
8. 3 (three) moderators putting forth a member, may award a coin to a member if they are considered contributing excellence to the community. (must be approved by admin), OR
9. Administrators may award a coin to a member if they are considered contributing excellence to the community.

Lines 1 through 4 are pretty simple to understand.

5 is for dealers and manufacturers

6 through 7 you have to prove that you have done something outstanding to better the community (eg contributing excellence to the community), not necessarily GOC, maybe the firearms community, maybe your local community.

Even if you apply via 6 and 7 you have to still show that you did something worthy of the coin, this isn't just a buddy buddy coin, that you can get people to agree to your name for a coin.

8 and 9 are the moderators and the admins looking at the community and seeing who really deserves a pat on the back.

Sadly being a member since 2012, doesn't count, posting doesn't count unless you hit 4000, and being a nice guy doesn't count.

There are 15 members with post counts over 4,000, another 12 close with 3,000 - 4,000.

We put in the post count because anyone that spends that much time posting on GOC really does spend the time to increase the content of the site and drive members to the site.

Honestly when it came to these coins, it came down to two things, 1. Do I give them away, and make it worth while since we paid alot of them, or 2. Do I just make cash off these and give them to the first 100 that come along.

GOC picked number 1.

Ever since we started GOC we wanted to better the community, by giving back to you with giveaways and discounts to our sponsors. While my partner and I love cash, since we are a business, we would rather have fun and get people to stand out and better the community.

Please do not apply for the coin unless you can prove you have done something outstanding to deserve it.

Exactly. You'd think with the limousine Liberals in power we could finally pry open the purse strings on such a desperately needed piece of Canadian culture, but noooooo. All of my letters seem to be getting ignored. No matter how many capital letters I use.

Even better! You would have to up your game!
No! Not better! Scary! My silly walk would quickly appear to replicate a hunched over furtive dodging from streetlight to streetlight.

I will chip in a toonie to help with any finances involved! Maybe a couple of them if it would ensure a clear, focused video for utube or facebook viewing!
Yeeaahhhhh, no.
Well okay, maybe. First let me sort through the hours of crap GoPro footage I have from 3gun and such this year. Did you know that if you record at 1080p at 60 frames per second you can amass a terabyte of footage PDQ.

I do not think this about "more money". The motley crew running this ship have shown that the members are the forum and the contests, giveaways and now these challenge coins are in my view a thanks for making this forum the best forum. I'm not certain I understand the idea of the coins. Could you define 'drawing' the coin better for me?

The challenge, which can be made at any time, begins with the challenger drawing his/her coin, and slapping or placing the coin on the table or bar. In noisy environments, continuously rapping the challenge coin on a surface may initiate the challenge. (Accidentally dropping a challenge coin is considered to be a deliberate challenge to all present.) Everyone being challenged must immediately produce the coin for their organization and anyone failing to do so must buy a round of drinks for the challenger and everyone else who has their challenge coin. However, should everyone challenged be able to produce their coin, the challenger must buy a round of drinks for the group.-wikipedia-

'drawing' means to produce the coin from your person.

Its popular in the military. Normally would get coined once you completed basic and in your unit. IE presenter would have a coin in his hand and give you a hand shake. Welcoming you to the group.

They can also be used as a thank you gift.

Why not? The goal of the coin is to show appreciation, and it's an easy way to show people who are less likely to be asshats to newcomers etc. And then we don't have to come over to this thread to check.

Special profile pic wouldn't be used too much and look like one poster on first scroll. And if it's a posters colour, some named might be getting out as a rainbow to cover all the colours they would qualify to have up there anyways

I think the people who get these coins will not be the kind of throw their internet weight around kind of people, so anyone who takes it as an elitist thing is probably a "participation medal everyone gets an award" kind of person and should be ignored for the greater good.

I don't think there's a need for an additional symbol or note in a user's profile. When other organizations honor someone with a challenge coin, it's usually not accompanied by a medal, t-shirt or bumper sticker.

To be honest I have never heard of a challenge coin before so I'm not privy to their use other than what was posted in the thread.

I don't recall mention of a medal, t-shirt or bumper sticker. No gaudy, over the top "look at me" bs.

The original thought was strictly for a discreet little symbol of recognition.

At a glance we can all see that zulu served (and we thank you for your service)

I thought it would be nice to know at a glance who has/had contributed above and beyond to the firearms community...and most importantly, how many drinks in a round :)

...thinking about it now I see it as a positive way to entice members to earn one. As an ongoing thing it may motivate members/new members to give back to the firearms community where they may not have. A thread they may/may not see isn't much of catalyst for contributing. A symbol that makes them curious to know more (and if possible takes them to the thread if clicked) could go a long way to adding contributors on a grander scale. Who knows what motivates people to go above and beyond? Look at all the folks out playing pokyman...

I'd like coin #54 if some fine gents would speak up for me. As for contributing to the community I enjoy educating and introducing new shooters in a safe and fun manor. I encourage as many people as possible to get their RPAL and engage in busting myths on social media.

A PM has been sent to all members that should have had theirs issued to them in the mail.

If you get it please PM me and if not (within a week) or a letter shows up opened without the coin let me know that too, Canada Post is refunding the cost to reproduce the coins, but it may be awhile before they are completed.

Sorry

Wonder if the coin moved hard enough that it broke through the envelope? Don't imagine letter shorting machines are very gentle.

What about sandwiching them between 2 pieces of cardboard and stuffing them into the envelope? That way they won't be able to feel that its a coin.

it's possible, but the gap of the machines compared to the width of the coin isn't a problem they check first.

The most of the envelopes i have seen have been opened clear as day to remove the coin

Mine arrived yesterday , the envelope was starting to tear open on the end already , I wonder if they're handled roughly that the coins aren't getting tossed into the bottom of the sorting containers ?
The coins look cool as hell , and added to the fact that mine arrived before BSD's is even better lol !
