Small Business Shipping

Hi all,

For those of you who ship stuff fairly regularly, small - medium package, who are you using and how's it working.

I use CanPost for most of my stuff but the rates are starting to choke my margins, which aren't epic to begin with.

On the surface CanPar and UPS don't seem much better but I've heard there's escalating discounts the more you ship. Is it worth it to eat the higher costs in the beginning and reap the savings in the long run ?

Do you have a Venture One card with CP? It's not huge but it helps out a little

Had it for a while. Better than a stick in the eye but not much.

I drool every time I look at the USPS flat rate boxes and envelopes. We've got pretty much zip along those lines for small business.

I own a small business as well that works mainly online besides some pop-ups(LittleGiftShop.ca), beginning to learn that selling to the US is more profitable due to the shipping rates. For example, I can send a small package through CP to Texas for $8-ish, but the same package costs $14-ish to send to Ottawa. I did have a conversation with UPS and they gave me a flat 20% off all rates with a promise for lower rates once my monthly shipping bill goes above $20k, but CP is still what my customers choose to save a dollar or two.

I'm doubtful CanPar is much better, or any of the others.
