View Full Version : Online fun shoot ( winter postal match)

Anyone interested in a winter monthly postal match? (forecasted high today of 32 and I'm thinking winter?????)

Pistol, rifle etc. Split it between centerfire and rimfire?

Pistol at 10, 15 or 25 yards?

Rifle (rimfire) to 40 yards? (I use that distance because that's what Phoenix goes to)

Do it for bragging rights or maybe get some sponsors to cough up some trinkets?

Any other ideas?

In!
Pistol and Rifle.
Do we post 'em here, with witness signatures, or ?
Hmmm, maybe hard to get witnesses at the range in the winter...
With today's techmunolomagy I could video my shoot and post it?
Maybe that's a little much, I dunno...?
Cheapy calipers, and an agreed upon target (printable off GOC?) would be all we need, right?

Prairie Dog

That's what I was thinking. I'll post a target example when I get home. Honor system should work and if you want in great and if not no big deal.

Now, what distances should we shoot to?

^Looks just fine...could we go 50yrds. for rimfire rifle? I'm just being lazy, but my range has 50yrd butts, I'd have to drag the moveable ones out to 40:)

I'm good anywhere with pistol, frankly I need the practice;) I'll say..15yrds?

Is it run watcha brung? Maybe Semi vs. bolt for rifle? All unsupported would be interesting....I know I could "stand" to improve there, too....?

Great idea! Count me in, name the the game, pistols(semi-revolvers), rimfire, centerfire, milsurp, count me in for it all :)

Tagging for interest. I've never done a postal match before but would like to.

I'm interested but not sure what you mean by postal? Mailing the score? Also, I believe Phoenix's rifle range only goes to 47yards

Bump!:)

Okay, so I printed Prairie Dog's suggested target off of reloadbench.com, it's about a third of the way down the list. I'm a gonna take out the ...mmmm....
-Custom 10-22 with Red Dot (50yds "Open-no magnification" semi rimfire?-Already with the crazy classes, Oy vay.) Could scope it, for postal competition?
-SKS (50+100 yds...should really get it's own class because of the super-duper accuracy.)
-Mini-14 (50+100 yds iron sight centerfire?...I'm really just bringing it to compare to the SKS benched, should be neat...if I can keep them all on the sheet of paper...)
-M&P 9 (15yd pistol)

I'm going out to the range this weekend, just thought I'd give a heads up...
I'll try them all unsupported, and then benched with...front bag? Yeah, that sounds good.
5 shot groups? I think that's a fair compromise...?
Unlimited time on shots? Hedging my pencil barrelled Mini-14:)

I'll drag out a couple more rifles if anyone else wants to suggest a category...? I don't own an m-14, or an AR:(. Yet.

Photos to come on Sunday....

At the risk of being flamed, why not just borrow something from the other site?

...Or not, for my range has been rented this weekend. I might get out into the bush, but that's farther, and I'd have to figure out target stands, and a rest...probably not gonna happen.

I think this would be fun Prairie Dog. Lets get the ball rolling by picking a target(easy on the black print cartridge) and shooting any cal pistol at 10, 15 and 25 yards and post a picture of said target in this thread.
Rifle in another separate thread. Here's what I will shoot.

This space reserved for my M&P9 at 10 and 25 yrds today...with my best 25 yrd group ever! Total breakthrough/lightbulb went on/muscle memory no longer has Alzheimers/somethin' clicked... I might not recycle this tupperware after all!

Now if only photobucket would quit giving me grief....

OK, Photobucket likes it when I threaten it with Flickr apparently; that resize went without a hitch, instead of freezing up.

So, M&P9 at 10 yards (1 7/8" group, average for me slowfire with this pistol at this distance)
http://i1059.photobucket.com/albums/t424/smellype/GOC%20album%201/Shootinkodak003.jpg

And then at 25 yards:

http://i1059.photobucket.com/albums/t424/smellype/GOC%20album%201/Shootinkodak001.jpg

A 2" group! I've only heard about these on CGN:)! Somehow I was holding my tongue in alignment with the moon...and it clicked for me! 1500 rounds later I've finally figured out this pistol! This group was a fluke, but for the rest of the day I was picking off clays at 25 yards, something I was only able to do at about 10 yards previously...so a big thank you to GOC for the postal match, or I wouldn't have had this happen!
Oh, and I ran out of the "official" targets earlier in the day, in case you were wondering.

Annd now that I'm back from dinner and looking at these, it's apparent that photobucket has decided to ignore my editing to size and my rotating to upright. Flickr, you say...

Bump - 'cause I'm the only person shooting pistol....except tiggr's wife!:)

Anyhoo, here's what my average groups look like at 25 yards after three weeks of not touching a pistol...sigh. Buh-bye tight little groups. Disregard the three in the bottom corner, they're from the target underneath, but the other eleven were an "aimed" "group"...although it was kinda difficult because of the weather: I was sweating my arse off! It was like, 12 degrees out!

I am a little confused. (Be quiet Strewth!) Have we agreed on a target, distance, and categories, ie., rimfire pistol, centerfire pistol, etc. ( I assume one target for rifle and another one for pistol.) What about a deadline? What are the rules exactly? I know Awndray suggested some off CGN but nothing seems to have been decided other than Strewth needs more practice.
What's happening here, guys?

I just keep running out of the right targets...or completely forgetting them on Saturday:rolleyes:

I'd split rimfire and centerfire.

Of course, I'd also close the contest, then I win bacon cookies for best shot, worst shot, and made least improvement:)

This target is fairly easy on the black ink cartridge. http://www.targetz.com/targetzlib/10082.pdf

Gentlemen (and Ladies too!)
Would anyone mind if I took the bull by the horns and laid out some rules, pistol/rifle categories, and a deadline? I really think this is a good idea but we need some agreed on parameters to make this happen.
You don't have to agree with me on any of the items but if we don't start somewhere it will just be a good idea that we had.
So, what say you?

Prairie Dog, not my intention to hijack anyone's thread or make anyone feel bad. I think it's a a really good (fun) idea and wanted to do what I could to get it rolling. My apologies if I offended you or anyone else. It sounds like you are in agreement, though, so I will send out a basic plan and then you guys can let me know what you think and we will go from there. Honestly, my experience says we may not be able to make everyone happy so we will all have to be wiling to compromise. I have also not done this before- hardly an expert so be nice if I miss something . . .

No apology needed from you at all, although mine still stands and no offense taken.

I'll do what I can to help and hopefully participate when time permits.

Thank you for taking the initiative on this.

OK, I am just waiting for one last piece of info. Will have a list of proposed events and rules shortly. Please stand by, lol.
Also, I may ask for some help as it might turn into a real marathon of determining winners in all categories so I might ask for some help. Hope someone will step up.
