I just wanted to give the crowd a heads up for anyone looking at an entry level rifle.
Unless a removable mag is a deal breaker,in which case the Axis is the way to go,look at the Marlin XS,XL series.
I just picked up a Marlin XS-7 and am impressed at the bang for buck.
It has an adjustable "accu-type" trigger and the stock feels more like a true synthetic than the flimsy Axis stock.
I like the feel of the marlin much more than the Axis.
The XS also sports a true short action.
Accuracy so far is good with the first loads I tried, all at or under 1" @ 100yds.
I expect to close them up with some experimenting.

I picked up the XL7 a few months ago and it's a nice gun. Need to get around to sighting it in though..

My god man you have had a new rifle that long and not sighted it in yet. We may have to look at revoking your man card. :shoot2:

I've been so busy. I loosely sighted it in, but I need to spend some time and get it precise. It's a 30-06. Just been busy with some other builds, and having a kid recently.

Bought an xl7 in .270 for my first rifle, definitely not disappointed with it.

I have one in .243, and love it.

Can't be beat for $350!!!
