PM says unelected senators have no business re-writing federal budget

http://www.timescolonist.com/news/pm-says-unelected-senators-have-no-business-re-writing-federal-budget-1.20633659

OTTAWA Justin Trudeau is reminding senators that they're unelected and have no business rewriting a federal budget passed by the elected House of Commons.

The prime minister says he respects the role senators play in providing sober second thought to legislation.

Indeed, having instigated a new appointment process aimed at making the Senate more independent and less partisan, Trudeau says he actually encourages senators to scrutinize legislation and recommend improvements.

But he's drawing a line when it comes to the government's budget implementation bill, as senators debate whether to hive off the portion of it which deals with creation of a new infrastructure bank.

Trudeau says senators need to remember that the House of Commons has authority over budgetary matters.

He's apparently referring to the fact that the Constitution prohibits the Senate from initiating a money bill; that power rests solely with the Commons.

I think it's the infrastructure bank the Senate wants to remove
so it's money
but it's not initiating a money bill, it's removing part of an Omnibus bill.

Good luck ( I too support a EEE Senate) but with a fop like we have in charge, along with his court, I'm not seeing any move toward any positive democratic reforms.

Well I guess they will have to put it on hold while they go back through the past 150 years of senate transcripts to see if there is a precedent either way.

Well, there are money related issues the Senate is looking.

The Infrastructure Bank and increasing alcohol taxes every year to the rate of inflation.

Pretty sure during the Harper years the Senat changed a billabout the environment.

Well, Peter Harder, one of Trudeau's "independent senate appointments" (and board member at the Trudeau foundation) whom he chose to be the governments representitive in the Senate is trying to claim splitting up the omnibus bill will in fact initiate a financial bill which he the Senate cannot do.

The simple fact here is that Justin, unlike his vile, foul Nazi-loving "papa", is very stupid and this cannot comprehend how a democratic Monarchy such as Canada, actually functions.

When and IF, we Canadians, ever elect a genuinely decent, REAL Canadian, as PM, things might change as such a person may well create a "triple E" Senate, as so many Canucks strongly desire. I hope for this as I support an ACTIVE, ELECTED Canadian Senate, composed of Canadians, BORN HERE.

I think that the re-work of gun legislation to protect our Canadian BIRTHRIGHT to keep and bear arms would likely emerge from such a situation, but, in this declining society, I am not optimistic.

Like the very reasonable and responsible recommended improvements the Senate suggested to the Liberals deeply flawed assisted dying legislation?

Which the little Dick-tater rejected outright?

He was talking about other people's bills...not his. What he really meant was he encourages the senate to be more critical of conservative bills...not liberal bills. Don't worry...when he's the official opposition, I'm sure his "the senate is our chamber of sober second thought" side will shine through again. When it's his own stuff being thrown back at him, IT'S (((stamps feet in a tantrum))) NOT FAIR !!!!!

Shouldn't the budget be a stand alone bill rather than a piece of an omnibus bill?

From my lowly perspective I see the turds true agenda. Tell unelected senators they have no business in his governing of the country but allow our national police force to write laws and interpret others as they see fit. The little sh*t seems to think a police state is more to his liking. He and all his toadies are nothing but communist insurgents who deserve to be treated like the vermin they are.

While I don't like the Senate getting too big for its britches I actually like what they are doing. I don't like omnibus bills, and attempting to make taxes automatic defeats the democratic mandate of parliament being required to levy them.
