A longtime Lieberal, anti private gun ownership and litigious trouble maker is in the news again, what is funny is how the Star seemingly refuses to Id the couple as dyed in the wool Lieberals and fervent anti right-wing activists who have a massive hate on the right wing news publisher, but instead makes out they are just blameless victimised citizens.

Kinsella runs an online journal that resembles a left-wing weblog, though he prefers to call it a website. The blog is famous in Canadian political circles for Kinsella's on-and-off feuds with other bloggers, including one with columnist Ezra Levant that prompted Kinsella to initiate a defamation suit claiming $5,000,000 in damages. -

Warren and Lisa Kinsella say they have just successfully filed a criminal complaint against the editor and publisher of Your Ward News for uttering threats against them in the paper. They did this through a private prosecution process.

A Toronto couple have brought a criminal complaint against the editor and publisher of Your Ward News, a controversial publication that Canada Post has been banned from delivering and that Toronto police have investigated for hate crimes.

Lisa and Warren Kinsella said a justice of the peace agreed Wednesday morning to charge editor James Sears and publisher Leroy St. Germaine with uttering threats.

Sears said in an email to the Star that he can’t comment on specifics, but called it a “mischievous, impotent complaint” and suggested the court was lacking important information.

“My legal team and I will mop the floor with the Kinsellas on our first available opportunity in court, but in the meantime, we will enjoy the free publicity that Daisy Group has once again garnered for Your Ward News!,” Sears said in the email, referring to the company run by the Kinsellas.

The Kinsellas, who have campaigned against Your Ward News, said they were concerned with an article in the current edition, in which Sears suggests his followers may decide to “bludgeon the Kinsellas to death.”

“Not only was this comment meant to intimidate and silence us from speaking out, it was also a genuine threat, I felt, against my family,” Lisa Kinsella said in a phone interview.

“What’s appeared . . . we believe has crossed the line into uttering threats and criminal territory.”

Lisa Kinsella said she originally went to police about the alleged threat on June 9 but they told her they did not have grounds to press charges.

She and her husband decided to go through the private prosecution process, which anyone can pursue if they believe they have reasonable grounds.

Warren Kinsella, a Toronto-based lawyer who has written about hate groups, says Your Ward News publishes “some of the most extreme hate (he’s) ever seen in Canada.”

Your Ward News, which describes itself as an “anti-Marxist publication,” has been called anti-Semitic, anti-Muslim, misogynistic, homophobic and neo-Nazi. The paper is based at an office in Toronto’s east end, at the corner of Main St. and Gerrard St. E.

Last year, minister of public services and procurement Judy Foote, currently on leave for personal and family reasons, issued an order to stop the distribution of Your Ward News via Canada Post. She has called the publication “highly offensive and well outside the norm of Canadian values.”

Sears challenged the order and a hearing to review the decision began in late April.

The Kinsellas are founding members of a group called Standing Together Against Mailing Prejudice (STAMP), which campaigned against home delivery of the paper, and have been a frequent target of the paper.

They say they are thrilled and relieved that the justice decided to move forward with charges.

Lisa Kinsella said they’ve been trying to get police and government action against Your Ward News for the past two years.

“Unless you’re a straight white male you are targeted in this publication,” she said. “We believe that this is not free speech, this is hate propaganda.”

Politics is a nasty, unpleasant, mean-spirited business, which is presumably why so many of us here tonight are drawn to it. Many of us are nasty, unpleasant and mean-spirited people. There weren’t enough editorial board jobs to go around at the Post, so politics would have to do as a substitute. - Warren Kinsella

They make it sound like a major achievement. What they did was "lay an information", that's the start of a "private prosecution". It can be done for any summary offence (including dual offence, but they will proceed as a summary offence). You show up at any courthouse and see a Justice of the Peace (not even a full judge), you tell them your story (no evidence is required) and explain which section of the criminal code you feel it should be prosecuted under. Keep in mind you don't have to have any legal training or education to become a JP (Boob Rae was so happy with his campaign bus driver in the 1992(?) election that he appointed the bus driver as a JP and he made really good money (and pension) pretending he had a clue in traffic court), it helps if you get them just before lunch or quitting time, they want to leave and to shorten any debate or argument they'll sign the Information just to get rid of you. A copy of the information will be sent to the now accused, along with a court date to enter a plea, and it will also be sent to the Crown's office. The Crown should take over the prosecution and start asking for evidence, witness statements, etc and may decline to proceed at any time. If the Crown is not willing to proceed, they the person who Laid the Information can have an attorney take over the prosecution at their expense.
If you have it's name, an address to have the summons delivered to and a good story you can have a ham sandwich charged for raping your dog.
BTW An Information is a charge under the criminal code and it will show up on CPIC, even after the charges are dropped.

Hold on a minute... Something doesn't sound right..

"Last year, minister of public services and procurement Judy Foote, currently on leave for personal and family reasons, issued an order to stop the distribution of Your Ward News via Canada Post. She has called the publication “highly offensive and well outside the norm of Canadian values.”"

Is this paraphrased or did a Liberal admit to the existence of Canadian Values?

I wonder what kind of treatment political prisoners receive in Canada.

Canadian Values?

Canadian Values is a politically correct buzzword. Every Canadian agrees that Canadian Values are a good thing.
But ask Judy Foote to define what Canadian Values are, and you won't enjoy the answer.

Indeed there are newspaper articles and editorials that try to do it, and usually they make quite the mess.

My Canadian Values were more common in the 1800s.

This is the Lieberals definition on what are Canadian values - Liberal Values Are Canadian Values (or in other words, anything opposite to what conservative Canadian's consider traditional values)
