Anyone else into RC Tanks?

I used to be part of a hobby group years back that would battle these. Nothing like they have in Europe though. Over there they have complete 1/16 scale towns and country sides.

My old tanks were all just plastic and it took a lot of work to keep them running and usually took work to make them run right out of the box. The bug bit me again and so for my birthday I decided to pick one up again. This time though I wanted something a little better.

So I found a company called Taigen. They are Chinese made but then shipped to Florida where they are upgraded. You can get plastic ones but this one is Full Metal. Everything from the tracks to the barrel is metal. The only parts that aren't metal are a few of the things on the tank like the MG42 and the little plastic shovel, etc.

You can get two versions. An IR version that will shoot an IR laser and will shut down another IR tank for use in battles. The other version shoots a 6mm airsoft BB. I picked the BB version as it's more fun shooting random things.

The tanks also have engine smoke that comes out the exhaust and sounds.

The other cool thing is the tank has simulated recoil. The tank will not only rock back on it's tracks but the barrel even recoils.

All for the low price of $600... yeah that part hurts a little.

Of course like any good funny but it would be a ”prohib tank” oh the irony!!!!!
I heard a story of a guy who had a destroyer model that had 12 gauges ... still cool but a story

WGRR.ca is where I ordered mine from. It's taking a slow boat from China to get here (not actually coming from China, just seeming to take forever)

I bought an automatic BB gun for that.

Yeah I looked at these tanks years ago. Just never bought one.

Can they take Down a squirrel?

Well it shoots thru 6 flaps of carpet and rubberized mats. I'm sure it would.

It's a 6mm barrel. Clearly the only option is a reamer in .243 Winchester.....

Some may say it's off topic, but after some thought, I decided to put this item on the thread that all the tank enthusiasts are looking at right now.

I remember my father having one but I havent seen it in several years. I must remember to ask if he still has it and if so snap some pics.
Update: my father says he still has it and will send some pics when he gets a chance. He has a German Panther. It doesn't shoot any projectiles but it does have engine sounds and even recoils when the firing effect sounds. It also puffs smoke from the exhaust.

Well here it is.

This poor thing had a couple wiring issues (loose wire and a loose connection that needed to be sorted out) but once I went over it with a fine toothed comb and sorted these issues out it is running pretty good. All except the damn exhaust smoke system, can't get that thing working too well at the moment.

When I was but a lad I had a toy train set (model railroad, HO gauge). The engine had a smoke stack that had a heating element, into which you dropped a pellet which was supposed to smoulder and smoke. It never worked.
Today my character is such that I'd probably spend an afternoon and fix it, but I didn't then.
I wouldn't "Tim 'the toolman' Taylor, More Power" it, with a vertical 4' flame thrower though.

I love the audio in your youtube video. The engine start was positively great. :)

The recoil alone was worth $100 of that total. :)

Had a model train that would smoke if you put a drop of oil in the smoke stack, was a common feature for a while. I assume heat from the DC electric engine was involved somehow.
