HI ALL
I NEED HELP.
I'M CONTEMPLATING ON BUYING A RED DOT SIGHT FOR MY 30-30.
I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THEM.
ALL I KNOW IS THAT I WANT AS SMALL DOT IS POSSIBLE.
WHICH IS THE BEST BRAND UNDER $1,000.00 DOLLARS?
IS THERE ANY GOOD ONES FOR UNDER $500.00?
WHICH ONE HAS THE BEST GUARANTEE?????
ARE THEY TOUGH OR FRAGILE?
THIS WILL BE USED FOR BEAR WOLF AND MOOSE HUNTING AND SOME TARGET PRACTICE.
I HATE TO ASK BUT I MUST.
THANKS IN ADVANCE

They're pretty tough, something like a vortex sparc2 for under $500 would be nice, not sure what they go for but an aimpoint h2 is going to be one of the toughest out there

I have a Vortex Strikeforce 2. I haven't tried it yet, but it is below $500. The dot is mid size but the housing is aluminum. Good warranty I suppose.

In the under $1000 range, I love my Eotech. It has a 1 MOA dot (as small as they come, most are 2 MOA or bigger) but it also has a ring around that that is quick acquisition. So if you want to place a precise shot you've got the 1 MOA dot but if you need to quickly hit a target centre of mass you've got the ring.

This is the one I have: https://www.wolverinesupplies.com/ProductDetail/EOTEXPS20_EoTech-EXPS2-0-Holographic-Weapon-Sight

The Sparc II is somewhere around the $300 mark, seems to have a reasonably good reputation. If you just want to test the waters and see if you like the concept, Bushnell Trophy TRS-25 runs in the $125-$150 range.

Most are 2 MOA dots. I'm not sure you're going to shoot much more accurate than that with a red dot.

WHICH IS THE BEST BRAND UNDER $1,000.00 DOLLARS?

Trijicon MRO, Aimpoint Comp M2/M4, H1/H2 and T1/T2, Meprolight RDS/M5 (there is a civilian and a military version of this one, both should be fine but get the military one if you can) or Vortex Razor AMG UH1 (holographic sight).

IS THERE ANY GOOD ONES FOR UNDER $500.00?

Not really. You can probably find one of them used for under 500 though. (There are good ones under 500 but I would not consider them tough. My standard for tough is how well it can withstand duty/combat/three gun use. If you're just plinking or hunting with it you may not need something that durable.)

WHICH ONE HAS THE BEST GUARANTEE?????

Trijicon And Vortex are lifetime. Aimpoint varies from 2 years to 10, Meprolight is 12. I doubt you'll need to use any of them, unless you buy a chinese or Philippines made Vortex.

ARE THEY TOUGH OR FRAGILE?

All the listed models are quite tough and some of those optics are combat/duty proven. There are lots of torture tests on YouTube.

THIS WILL BE USED FOR BEAR WOLF AND MOOSE HUNTING AND SOME TARGET PRACTICE.

You may want to consider a scope instead of a red dot if you're hunting. If you need the 1x, consider a low power variable like a 1-4 or 1-6.

I HATE TO ASK BUT I MUST.

That's what forums are for.

Yea, the trs-25 on my uncle's 30-30 ended up in my possession once he realized that he doesn't like them.

We put a TRS-25 on my buddy's slug gun.
I'm suprised at how much I like it.
It has stood up well so far, but he hasn't used the gun as a jack handle either.

I like TRS25's..

I would look at a low power optic like a 2x or something.

I would add that you might want to give the delta, or triangle reticles a look. You see them mainly on Meprolights and Trijicons. Yes, they are large reticles. But you set your scope to zero on the point of the triangle. It gives you something bigger to pick up with your eye, but still gives that needle point for accuracy.

I had two Vortex Sparks and I was not a fan of them at all. I had the 1x which was okay, and I'd wish I kept it but I sold it after I got the 3x, which was garbage. It didn't even look magnified, or if it did, maybe 1.5x tops (confirmed by many other people who looked through it).

For the money, I have nothing bug good things to say about the dead-nuts simple Bushnell TRS 25. I got mine for $100, but they're usually $125-$150 now, but still worth it.

No it's not amazing, but it is very good for the money. I've had it on everything from my SKS to a shotgun, and it's now on my son's Savage Rascal, and he can hit a 6" gong from 100 with practically every shot, so the dot isn't too large.

At that price, would it not be better to get a Vortex Crossfire for about $199, instead of the TRS-25 ?
I am just wondering whether the Vortex Crossfire is worth the extra $50 or so ?

Since the TRS-25 is discontinued, what is the cheapest name brand ( not China no name stuff ) red dot sight available ? the Vortex Crossfire ???

I hadn’t heard of the TRS being discontinued? Cabelas still shows stock both with and without the riser mount. I have no idea how the Crossfire red dot performs, I’ve only seen/used the Sparc

it's still listed as product on the Bushnell site along with the AR TRS 25 and the TRS 26

Just broke down for the Leupold RDS to go on the 1895 SBL. 7-10 weeks for delivery makes me sad..... If I like it I’ll order another straightway for the M4!

Fair enough and I may have used the wrong terms. I had the Vortex 1x (awesome, discontinued) and the Vortex 3x (terrible, still for sale).
