Wow...couldn't see this coming. I don't want to start a stampede, but I just want you guys to know, it's started.

I went into WSS today just because I was passing by and was actually ahead of schedule today. I looked for some 308 180 grain spitzer bullets...yea, good luck with that...then started looking at the rest of the stuff...lots of empty holes where the cheaper Hornady and Speer stuff was. Just for kicks, I walked up to the counter and asked if they had a Ruger 10/22 of any flavour in stock...nope. Got listening to one of the staff talking to the guy standing beside me. They're getting little to no stock out of the states right now, and there's no hint of that changing anytime soon.

Anyway...I needed more Federal 215 magnum rifle primers like I need a hole in the head, but bought a brick anyway...DAMN....up to 37.99/1000 now ! OUCH ! I've got more than enough bullets, primers, and powder to keep me going for a few years, but you guys who aren't hoarders like me...LOL...might want to start grabbing stuff while it's still available and before the prices take another stupid jump.

Cheers.

It looks like my debut in the IPSC world is going to be either expensive, delayed or both.

I went into WSS today...

I would have considered this serious had you not mentioned WSS but as many can attest a full catalogue and little-to-no actual inventory has long been their business model.

It's never a bad time to buy primers BTW!

I'm going to weigh in as glass half full:
No new gun laws will pass down south
All the smoke and mirrors in the States will shift to another "issue" to hide the debt
People will realize they've bought a bunch of AR's and P-mags on credit they can't afford
The market is flooded with gently used AR's
I pick up a KAC for $800.

I was in WSS in Saskatoon yesterday and they have a large supply of ammunition, more so on display than Cabela`s in Saskatoon. Price is similar.

I was told the same thing by The Gun Center in Kitchener. They are having difficult times stocking certain firearms and most ammo, because the Americans are buying it all up. He also said specifically that it was mostly private citizens stocking up their emergency collection. (I dont know how he "knew" the last part, but thats what i was told)

Geez, I just totally stocked up in .223, and now I'm getting into a semi .308. Probably should have better anticipated that one....

Ruger firearms have been in short supply for over a year now.

While there will be some hiccups, I do not see the situation nearly as dire as others. Please keep in mind shipments are still coming in that were ordered 2 years ago.

I hope you're right. I was hoping to cash in on some good deals after the Y2K computer bug scare, and after Dec 21 this year....so far, I haven't seen many generators come up forsale cheap.

I saw a couple, but not many; I think both of those "events" generated a prepping mindset that had people buying things you'll consume, or should have around anyway, not extra copies of things you only need one of.....I see this one as more of a generator/gas can ban, where the extras are going to pop up for sale once the fact that you've got money tied up in surplus surplus sinks in. I hope. C'mon cheap KAC!

Exactly. Rumour mongering.

Canada has always been a poor cousin to the US. Stuff takes a long time to work its way up here. Rhode Island gets serviced before we do. Really.

In good times and bad, you must always keep yourself supplied. It's been like this since I started using firearms. The only difference was that you could mail order things and/or go to the States and bring stuff back - including ammunition.

There's another lesson here too. If you're not reloading, you're doomed to fail.

Saskatoon GunWorks got some 10/22s in, including that new takedown. Pretty slick.

Shortages are in the Eyes of the beholder, Some places are out, some have full stock.

Yes Magpuls are a prime example but reloading supplies I dont think we will see a shortage in that unless they attack ammo supplies in the States.

Well I agree, I am into reloading aswell and I was worried untill i did some calls today to my suppliers. LOTS of stock and more on the shelves of their suppliers. Some jumped on the bandwagon and bought right away.

Well Dennis knows I am in a good position for some reloading supplies, assuming my supplier is still around. I haven't needed anything for awhile but might be a good idea to see what his situation is in all of this.

Worst comes to worst I may have to start selling them to all you folks in need.

That said I went and ordered 2 crates of 7.62x39, and bought the local shops out of CCI Standard Velocity just in case. ;)

Whether there's a shortage or not, I'm not worried. I've modified my shooting habits since the 2008 shortage and stocked up on pretty close to a lifetime supply of JUST reloading components. I also always buy 2 or more of the same kind of guns incase parts dry up, and at least 10 mags per gun.

that's because there are only 3 customers in WSS...2 are BSing not buying at the gun counter so the stooges that work there don't have to help the 3rd customer who got tired of waiting and is going over to Cabelas to further deplete their inventory...

won't be going back any time soon...if ever...

You're almost right. Three guys standing behind the counter, BSing with a guy who isn't buying a gun so that they don't have to help the 2 guys who are standing there. At least that's EXACTLY how it went down today with Jonanddad and I. I finally walked around behind the guy they were talking to so there wouldn't be any excuse for not seeing me, then, without being asked if they could help me, I directly addressed one of them. If bad customer service was a terminal life threatening disease, WSS would be where they'd take the pictures for the sympathy posters.

ANYWAY.....I'm now completely stocked up on reloading components for the next three years if I don't walk into a single store (which I will, but I won't "have" to). Don't bother looking for Winchester 12 gauge white wads at the WSS north store. They had 3 bags left, and they're now gone. They don't have a single die set left in 9mm and I think Jon got the last .223 Lee set they had. We're not quite as bad as the US but God, we're doing our best to keep up with them at cleaning off the shelves.

Also, for what it's worth...which isn't much because he'd have no real way of knowing....but....one of the counter guys remarked "You can pretty much forget about anymore primers this year". They have some in stock of various flavors, but supposedly, they're not expecting any in. I was tempted to grab a box of Federal 215's but thought the better of it. I have lots, so I thought I'd better leave it for the next guy to pay the inflated price.

Well if this shortage is anything like the last my source here will still likely have a good supply of primers, and powder.

Shoot me a PM when or if the time ever comes. ;)

That said there seems to be a pretty steady supply of S&B stuff these days, and I don't think that will be affected too bad by the US situation.

I pass right by WSS on my way in and out of the city and from now on that's all I'll be doing is passing by.
They've p'd me off for the last time.

Actually i was asked by a gun counter person "anything i can help yuo with" kind of scarey but i think maybe service is improving. Kind of nice being able to go over the ammo supplies yourself, just picked up a couple of different boxes of 22lr to try out in the CZ. Still prefere to shop at North Pro they just need a bigger store, three guys in the gun area can hardly turn around.:D

hmm

i was totally disappointed at WSS this weekend too. went to go pick up a crate of SKS ammo and they had absolutely nothing. used to have an entire aisle of crates and now they have not even a sniff of ammo for Sasha the SKS, and not expecting anything for her until the summer. that bites.

$ 140.00 per 1/2 crate (700 rounds)
$ 775.00 for 3 crates (4200 rounds)

Here's the reply I got directly from Ruger (after about 3 weeks, at least) when I asked them about their supply issues:

Thank you for your Online Support Request and regret to hear of your frustration.

This is in reply to your email to us regarding the 10/22 rifles.

We have been shipping 10/22 rifles, but we have not come close to filling our distributors requirements, either in the USA or internationally, and some configurations are harder to get than others. In addition, we sell our goods through a two step process to wholesale distributors, and our distributors sell to retailers like yours. Because of this, we have no control over the order in which retailers receive their firearms.

Without knowing from whom your retailer has ordered we cannot even begin to speculate about deliveries. However, we suspect this is simply an issue of demand drastically exceeding supply. Please be patient; we are shipping as quickly as we build them.

Best Regards.

A guy at one of the gun shops I was in yesterday said that his rep told him Walmart US has an order in for 1.25 million 10/22's of various flavors for delivery throughout 2013. I don't know if it was BS or not, but it's not beyond possibility. He said he's had the gun I want...target version with the stainless heavy barrel on order since LAST February and hasn't seen one yet. Hey...better than gun manufacturers going out of business I guess. I just hope they haven't hog tied the quality control department to speed up production.
