Tactical turtle shield phalanx! Very operational.

I remember when the operator connected my telephone calls...

Does it come with a neck brace so you don't break your neck trying to hold it up ? :D

There is an attachment on his rifle for that.... LOL

That is slick, all the goods strapped on,.. now you just need a ticket to damascus, some good armor for sure, and you can zig-zag, pepperpot, your life depending on it, about the conflict zone for raw footage.

Would love to use that doing vigilante work, but if I got caught by the police I'm sure they would put me on the black list.

Where the heck is the rail? Needs more rails.

TV-PressPass
09-25-2013, 09:05 AM
I still have to sections of pic rail I could install. . . if only I could think of something to put on them.

Also missing: goggles.

It's actually super light, and definitely the best setup I've ever had for night vision. Some helpful advice from the headset manufacturer means I've seated the whole thing inside the helmet now.

Needs a go pro

What's the block on the back that says "Warning do not extend shield for IR operation"? Could you take a picture through the night vision? Would the picture do your set-up justice?

Have you compared the Contour to a Go-pro for the shooting sports? It definitely looks lighter/more streamlined.

:p You could put QD wings on the sections of pic rail. Every battle helmet needs wings, IMO.

I think that's an IR strobe so air support doesn't drop a package on his head.
Which makes me curious if it's noticeable through his own night vision?

Oops I never noticed the contour. Nevermind my above comment on the go pro.

I own both and use both. But I'm also more likely to use action cameras as just small regular cameras. Mounting things on other things sometimes gives good footage, but more often than not gives shaky blocked garbage.

The number one thing I like about the Contour is that I can spin the lens to get the horizon level no matter how it's mounted.

Let me do a proper gear breakdown :p

The MS2000 strobe is an IR strobe, or a regular signal strobe with the IR shield removed. In theory (I just got this setup this week) placing the strobe at the back of the helmet means you shouldn't see too much blinky through the NV when its active.

The tan light is a surefire White/IR helmet light, so it has a barely visible IR led blinker in it and a forward IR light (for when you're in a space with zero light to amplify, basements, caves, whale tummies)

The Liberator headset:
a) acts as hearing protection
b) acts as hearing amplification: two mics for stereo input
c) acts as comms to the Garmin GPS/walkie talkie

What else am I missing?

Strewth
09-25-2013, 10:32 AM
So you've just got the Contour on there for after shooting assessments, once in a lifetime footage, etc, and wouldn't recommend a helmet mount for quality video shots, then?
The headset sounds very nice, how's the real world NRR with a rifle stock shoved against it?

What else am I missing?

What's the helmet?

Glad I'm not the only one designing my loadout around about being eaten by a whale.

The helmet is an Ops-Core Basejump. Best helmet suspension system I have ever used, but no ballistics what-so-ever. Definitely miles ahead in comfort from the real tin-lids (http://i.imgur.com/RQkClmB.png) I've worn. . .

You are 100% correct on the contour assessment. One of the best differences I can explain between how I use the reaction cams is in this video here:

@1 minute, that's shot by my girlfriend with the go-pro. @ 1:22 thats show by me wearing the go-pro. One is pretty clearly more watchable than the other in my mind

Money don't make the man. Man makes the money.
Meaning there are a lot of people out there with no tactical goodies that will make some of these youtube phonies piss there panties with nothing more than what ever they can get there mitts on. But now if you are training to use this gear and come proficient with it...
Well lets just say you will put my panties in a not.;)
Now enough pic's already! Time to get that gear dirty :p
P.S. Ya you could say I am a bit jealous :la:

Never change a know for a un-know.
Take fresh mag and slap chop it out.

TV-PressPass
09-26-2013, 08:15 AM
Lol, I know lots of folks like it, but I will never support a slap-chop style reload.

From a practical shooters perspective: my mag goes flying and is a pain to retrieve. I don't want to bash around my expensive .223 mags more than necessary. If I'm doing a run and gun it could be hard to find again!

From an operators perspective: a mag on the deck is a hazard to my fellow operators who might be advancing into the area. It's also a mag which is unlikely to be retrieved during exfil and reloaded for future operations.

Strewth
09-26-2013, 09:22 AM
^Agree, not a fan. Mostly because of your first point, but the second one has merit for me as well; I've stepped on mags I've flung out willy-nilly in my AO. Now if I drop them on the ground, I've gotten pretty good at thumbing them out to land about a foot to my left, makes a nice little trail of breadcrumbs to follow back to my start position:).

Plus when I try to slap chop with my mags I just end up with cucumber all over the kitchen.

lol at tight-ginched multicammed mouse-pad armchair armourers attacking your operator operations.

I got to play (briefly, strapped in, with the owner hovering-$26000 dollars-) with a FLIR camera the other day, most cool. No hiding in the bushes from that thing. The prices of FLIR scopes are getting within my event horizon, very exciting stuff.

The $2k stuff isn't really worthwhile I think.

But by the time you get to $3k you have a really good thermal solution. Of course the fancy stuff is still amazing and astronomically expensive.

I think I'm going to start writing my memoirs:

Chapter XXII: In which, our hero asserts numerous battlefield concepts and is belittled as a shopping-center-shinobi. Piglet discovers a can of condensed milk.

2 way range will change your guys idea's on get it done asap as opposed to oh my fancy dancy mag got boo boo :P
But to each there own right?
Although my point "Don't change a know for a un-know" still applies. Grab your fresh mag and bring it up to the rifle then grip the empty one and replace it with the other full one and take the empty and place it in your mag bag.

Strewth

Two way range will make a lot of the shooting I do at the range standing up with no cover and a pinned mag look pretty darn foolish, lol.

No more making fun of my fancy dancy surplus mags either, it took me hours to get the Hello Kitty whiskers just right:p

Good thing it is a Kevlar not like the old steel pot I had to wear before they decide to pass on the Kevlar helmet..... count yourself lucky.
