Mark II, Reloading does not have to be slow. For about $3k you can have a loaded Dillon 650 and four calibres, complete with auto loading primer tubes and casing feeders. A new cartridge drops out every couple seconds once you're set up.

Originally had some quality control issues with their black ARs looking grey, (and mismatched uppers/lowers), as well as some bolt issues on some AR calibres, but in the last decade or so they have been making mostly good stuff. Canadian company, too, so best to support if possible.

Then you're not exactly buying a Tavor, either. If you want a useful semi-auto as a cheap date you're in the range of an SKS to an M305 to a Mini 14. If you can afford a gun worth several thousand then you can afford a Modern Varmint as easily as a Tavor.

Not knowing any other factors, that really does seem to be a very good price. Usually like-new guns sell for a better ratio than that, so I'm not sure what is missing from this equation.
