Wife said we would butcher 4/four meat birds this am and in the end 8 of the little darlings died.
Sold 4 1/4 grown turkeys for $25 apiece so that means we have the other seven for free. I like free like the wheat we are feeding them as the kid and I went and helped a buddy clean bins. The kid got cash and I got 27 5 gallon pails of wheat.
The hen that raised 7 little ones told the little peckerheads they were on their own 3 days ago and be danged if she didn't mean it.LOL

We sent 60 broilers to the big coop in the sky Friday.

7 weeks old, average weight 4.5lbs dressed.

Thats insane considering they were outside and fed mostly rolled mixed grain.

One of the Novagens/red sex links. The other one still has a pretty pink face. The next one we think will be the Barnvelder - she's pretty red looking with big waddles. Wyandotte and Orpington still pretty pink as well. The Americauna's head is so fluffy we can't even tell if she will get red.

Heh. And here we thought her squatting when we went to go pick her up was because she was finally getting used to being petted and handled...looks like she was hoping for some big ole rooster to handle her instead bahahahaha

    We're killing the turkeys tomorrow.
    It makes me sad.
    But kind of hungry.
Why does the rest of the country get first dibbs on half my income?

4 turkeys made it to butcher day.
Smallest was 17lbs, and the big boy was almost 28lbs.

How do you kill a turkey without a shotgun? Just a cone and slice its' neck?

I cut a hole in the bottom of a 5 gallon pail for a killing cone.
It was all I could do to stuff the big boy in there.
