These were already on my photobucket. Parent's place. Coop, and the chick is a rooster, half bantam half red. Full grown now.
Actually that chick was the first, and so far the only one that was born on the property.
80 or so meat kings are there in the summer. A dozen laying hens there now.
Used to have 2 or 3 pigs, but pork prices are low, so we haven't bothered in the last couple years.

Very cool. I can't have my own right now, but this is where I'll be buying my chicken this year. http://coyoterockfarm.com/ A friend-of-a-friend started this up and has had great success with it so far.

    Awesome!

My current plan.....I am buying an old school bus for a motor swap in my F450 with a blown head gasket/cracked head that is slowly dying. That leaves me with a 20' or so school bus that I will build a facade over, and turn into a predator proof chicken coop on wheels.

Hopefully fencing off a 60x100' ish chicken area this week so they can free range it a bit.

We usually let the laying hens wander the yard as they please if someone is home, the meat kings stay in the pen.

I've been planning on chickens again but haven't found the time.
Maybe this year is all goes well...here's hoping.
My kids love chickens for some reason and we used to go grasshopper hunting so they could hand feed them.
They named one hen "Greedy" because once she figured out what was up she tried to get them all.
Nothing like orange yoked eggs from free range layers.

Now you done it. I've like fowl since I did that in my pants as a babe.

Found many ways to get a chick out of an egg including this old incubator a bunch of years back. I cooked a lot of eggs with the old lantern type wick and fire before I actually got a chicken or three out of it with that method. I found that a light bulb would actually hatch an egg with this unit.

Bought one of these for the boys[wife, daughter and ME].

    It works well

    This ain't a bad book.

    The baby sitter

This old fool nested out in the bush where the coyotes get every one

Except I found her before they did and

If they have 30 eggs leave em with 'er as she hatched 21 and 16 lived to eating size.
    [Couldn't find the pics]

My son,now 16 used to love "tickens" when he was little...til him and the rooster had a disagreement and someone got chased!

Coop, chicken and the dog again

These weirder looking one laid greenish eggs

And the rooster here is the daddy, iirc, of the chick from my first post. The female, Sally, is still around I think but the rooster is not.
