the wild still lingered in him and the wolf in him merely slept

Chicken is proving just how dumb a bird can be. She went clucky yesterday and has never seen a rooster. She got 18 eggs from the neighbors hens this afternoon so that if she actually sets for three weeks, she may have a reason.

I tried to keep the chicks and turks apart in separate rings but the turks would figure out how to get over the rim and get in with the chicks anyway. Seemed to get along fine. I took em out when the size difference got too big. I did raise pheasants and wild turkeys in the same pen for the duration one year. They had their moments but nothing too weird. When there was fighting it was among their own. I have ducks and chicks this year so I am keeping them apart for now. My layers are here in a couple weeks and I will try to free range them all together and see if it works out. Ducks are over the top cute and hilarious...just make you laugh out loud.

No chicken pics but the little guys show up on Thursday. Figured we maybe should get rid of a problem before it [got the wife to bite my butt] did something I didn't want done.

She's been a few years + since I skun a skunk Dewey. It was a good sized one with great stripes on the body but the tail was a little weak. They do make a great pelt.

Just like they said the chicks would show up on the 21st and I still get a kick outta picking up the mail and listening to them peep on the way home. Cool damp morning but they all came out alive and we got 4 extra birds for the loss in transit thingy.

4 year olds love this day as much as those of us much, much older.

They appear to like their new home so far.

I really wish every body could do this as it is a learning experience that you really can't learn how to do any other way. The 19 year old is in charge of the chicks for today and the he has to look after the 4 year old nephew as well. He already decided it was to cool and added a plastic roof to make a smaller space to heat cause it is so cool out.[color me impressed]

Something happened yesterday I ain't never saw before. One of the turkeys went down and I fully expected it to die. Then last eve it was up and we couldn't even tell which one it was. Never ever seen a turkey recover before.

I think they're extra tough this year.
We had a few sideways on the bottom of the box on arrival.
Saw one twitch, so we warmed it up for an hour, and he was good to go.
