American bear hunter shot dead in B.C.

Police are investigating the shooting death of an American man who had been hunting for bear in northern B.C.

RCMP were called Monday to a forest service area about 100 kilometres south of Houston, B.C., where they found the body of a 59-year-old man.

Mounties say the man had been hunting with the help of guides.

Not much to go on at the moment I guess, but my condolences to his family.

The comments in the Globe&Mail are disgusting. Time to sign up; I recognize one of the few voices of reason against all the PETA idiots.

    My first thought!

Serious side, sorry for the hunter and all involved. We had a shooting down here a few years back where a woman walking was killed by an hunter who mistook her for a deer. Deadly consequences when not 100% sure of your target.

I understand they went back the next day after shooting the bear only to find that they had left it all night wounded and suffering... Just desert? Anyway, not being a hunter, I'm not going to criticize one's choice to hunt, but, at least finish the job.
Our gun laws are so strict that it's like having a complete gun ban but with Vaseline...

I don't see that anywhere. Where are you finding that?

I also don't see the words 'accident' anywhere in there, which makes me wonder how he came to be shot. I've seen a few american 'bear hunters' and they're not quite as safety oriented as we are in my experience (limited of course to only a handful but still). But -i'm pretty sure if it were an accident they'd have said so right off the bat.

Oooo I'd hate to be that guide.

When someone says "Get down!" you'd damn well better get down in a hurry.
