Little late to this party but....

The Criminal Code defines an antique firearm as either:

(a) any firearm manufactured before 1898 that was not designed to discharge rim-fire or centre-fire ammunition and that has not been redesigned to discharge such ammunition, or
(b) any firearm that is prescribed to be an antique firearm

There fore if you believe your hand gun that was made before 1898 and shots rimfire or centre fire ammo is, its not, you need to have an Rpal and or prohib statis.

P.S. You HAVE convinced me that using just the breech plug is too much of a crap shoot as the RCMP did opine that the barrel was the equivalent to the "frame or receiver" while the now defunct CFC was of the opinion that it was just the breech plug so I plan to use both but I see NO reason to think I will have difficulty even with a brand new stock and lock. Just to allay any issues it will also be "antiqued" so as to not stir any suspicion in the first place.

"Case law" be damned there absolutely MUST be an equivalent to a "frame and receiver" on a lock stock and barrel weapon or you could never replace any part of it including the FLINT and it sure as HELL is NOT the stock or the lock!

The mistake you are making is to expect consistency and reason from the Firearms Act and those who enforce it.

You are fixated on the idea that a firearm MUST have a receiver, which is wrong and really just an effect of a law written by people who don't know anything about firearms. Which part of a matchlock, with the barrel drilled from a single piece, like how a cannon is made, is the receiver?

As an example of govt idiocy applied to firearms, consider the Sten gun. The original guns have their serial number stamped on the magazine housing, which is a part that is removable from what every knowledge person would understand to be the receiver, the tube. The really interesting thing about the Sten is that the gun can be fired with the magazine housing removed.

Thus it would be possible to remove and hand in the magazine housing and be left with an assembly of uncontrolled parts that are perfectly capable of firing live ammo. And yet the RCMP designated the magazine housing to be the "receiver" for no reason other than that part contains the serial number.

The RCMP and the law can opine on whatever they want, but that doesn't make it true. Muzzle loading guns do not have a receiver and it doesn't matter what the RCMP thinks about that.

Your quote is from the RCMP they do not make the law as of yet no matter how hard they try. The actual law from the criminal code is as follows -

7 A handgun manufactured before 1898 that is capable of discharging centre-fire cartridges, other than a handgun designed or adapted to discharge 32 Short Colt, 32 Long Colt, 32 Smith and Wesson, 32 Smith and Wesson Long, 32-20 Winchester, 38 Smith and Wesson, 38 Short Colt, 38 Long Colt, 38-40 Winchester, 44-40 Winchester, or 45 Colt cartridges.
