But we'll blame it on the gun.

obviously cops cant do anything about gangsters maybe its time to let the public defend themselves. i can guarantee you that there is no way some punk ass gansters would show up to a party if the owner and everyone at the party had a carry permit, they wouldnt even think about it. gangsters are like sharks, if they smell blood they will go right after it.

Yeah they would. They do in the states all the time, and they show up to other parties where they know other gang members are there with guns too. While they haven't mentioned it yet, I"m pretty sure this is going to turn out to be more than one shooter, and if that's true then obviously they weren't worried about the fact others might be armed. And I doubt MORE people shooting would have resolved this.

Armed citizens have an important role to play in fighting crime, but it's not a panacea. We still have to focus more resources on gangs and locking those up we do catch carrying illegally or shooting up the public.

    Wasn't that a party.

Man. Time to pull out the Irish Rovers. Haven't heard that in years.

Anyone not gang related at this party that was injured? I'm sorry, my give a darn ends when it comes to gangs.

I agree with posts 16 on. Not sure if anyone remembers a year or two ago about the mob style hit at the Gloucester Centre here in Ottawa where a lone gunman walked into a tanning salon and casually shot the owner point blank in the head and walked out. To my knowledge he still hasn't been caught. He WALKED in and out. Nobody tried to stop him, because nobody could. And the cops want the public's help they say? The silver lining is that supposedly the salon was a front so the owner was a scumbag too. One less of them to worry about now.
I remember getting the stink-eye from my neighbors after that incident being that the location is less than a block from my house. As I'm the only known gun owner on my block they all gave me dagger eyes as if it was me that did it, or as if to say "see, I told you guns were bad". I just looked back as if saying "see, I told you a good guy with a gun may have stopped him."

if he just walked in and shot the guy - then he would have succeeded anyway. Armed citizens only come into play AFTER the bad guy has reveled his intentions. Consider the shooting at the memorial of that soldier recently. Trained combat soldier and he didn't know what was up till the guy drew on him. And again at the entrance to parliament, the guys at the front had guns, didn't stop the guy from shooting mr sung and gaining access.

Armed citizens are major foils to armed robbery, sex assault, carjacking, etc etc. They can intervene AFTER an assassination or after a rogue gunman starts dropping people, but only after it starts. And in a case like this, obviously they weren't worried about whether or not the other guy had a gun (which it would seem he did, tho we don't know that for sure). Gang members usually assume other gang members have guns, yet we still get gang wars and gang violence at parties or night clubs or the like.

The way to stop gangs is to make it very very undesirable to be in a gang for various reasons. Hunt them, harry them, lock them up for long periods when you catch them, etc. But ccw, as valuable as it would be, wouldn't really stop this kind of crap.
