    Scope for AR15

I'm looking for suggestions for a scope for my Norinco AR15.

Looking for a cheaper option, 50-150$
Would like magnification opposed to just red dot
Must be able to hold zero and mount on a flat top or with a riser

Not sure the best option as I have the front sight post.
    Thanks

Any reason you don't want to start with irons?

Personally I would not buy any magnified optic for the price you're describing. But for a starter red-dot you could pick up a TRS-25 off of Amazon for that much.

If you want magnification, I'd spend a little more money and get a magnified 1-4x Crossfire II from Vortex. I use its big-big brother on my Norc upper and have no problem with the front sight base intruding on the optic.

There are a lot of great value optics out there. Weaver, Redfield, Vortex all make decent glass. These are all in the $300 range though. If you absolutely don't want to spend more than $150, check out the Cabela's line of optics at www.Cabelas.ca $150 is tough because you have to mount the scope too.

The front sight post will be a small shadow at the bottom of your sight picture, but it will still be functional. (the scope will be functional, not the front sight)

Also, don't buy a rimfire scope. They won't handle the recoil of an AR15 for very long.

My best advice would be to stick with iron sights until you can afford a decent scope & mount. Maybe even get a low profile gas block. It depends on what you want to do with the rifle.

I almost bought that 1-4x Crossfire II before I lucked across a Bushnell Elite 2-7x on sale. It seemed like fair quality for dollar value. Plus the warranty is excellent. I'd try to bump up to $200 plus rings and mounts if possible. Or if you're open to suggestion, look around for some previously loved glass.
Those Bushnell red dots are a great bargain sight too...

    $50 to $100???
    Holds Zero???
    LMFAO!!!
Take a look at Battle Zone from Redfield best bang for your buck. As for that price range check out the used market or buy NC Star stuff from Marstar. That way when it does crap out on you and yes it will for that $$$ they will replace it no questions asked.

Canadian tire sells a red dot thats really good, tasco for 70, ive seen nutnfancy review it well. For a scope ve seen a simmons 3x9 meant for rimfire do very well with 223 as it doesnt recoil much. I actually own both, and I run a 1200 optic for 3 gun but for plinking or even 600 yards the 3x9 works great. The simmons was 140 and they both hold zero, the tasco even holds zero on my 870 .

Excellent choice! Thats an optic that will actually take you places. I find the strikefire's dot a little too big, but the Sparc is right on the money.

Had a Vortex Viper PST 1-4 that failed, as did all my Vortexes.
Scope glass was good but it failed mechanically, with elevation turret popping out while dialing.
Was fun to use while it worked tho. Easy groups at 300 yds.

I'll sell the new unit as soon as Vortex will send it back to me. Then I will stick to the irons I guess, as nice, reliable 1-4 scopes are quite expensive.

If I had to toy with a new flat top AR I'd consider a good set of BUIS like Magpul PRO and any Aimpoint (the Pro being an outstanding unit for the price), coupled with a magnifier unit.
If I had a nice budget, I'd go with a HAMR.
Have fun picking up your parts, it's the funniest part with AR's*!

    When in doubt, ask Steve!
