So I recognize that this is a very old thread, but when I did a google search for where to buy a signal cannon in Canada, this thread came up. So I thought I would post on it.
The reason for the post is that I was on Kijiji looking for one and came across a seller in London On. that is selling 11 small cannons as a lot for $150 and a couple look like they may be of signal cannon size. If anyone in the area is interested in them it may be worth a look. Im an awful long ways away and shipping may be limiting.
This same seller has lots of interesting stuff posted.
I never contacted the seller and so I don’t know if they are real or not.

Years ago, back when we were about 14 or 15 and a one pound tin of black power was 5.99 at the general store, we got a hold of a chunk of 1 3/4 ID x 3 1/2 OD drawn seamless tubing about 3' long. We turned, through pinned and welded a snug flitting breach-plug; bored a 3/16 flash hole with a 3/4 in counter bore about 1/8 inch deep. Welded two legs on it about a foot from the muzzle.

We would load it with about an ounce of FFFg black powder, prime it with the same black powder, using a small stick to prod it into the primer hole; two sheets of news-paper for wadding, wadded tight, and what ever projectile(s) we could find from big ball bearings, to rocks, to a hand-full of fine crushed filter stone; a couple of blocks of wood and wedges to adjust elevation. Used a broom handle wrapped with a rag, tied with wire, and soaked in diesel as a touch stick. Wow! The concussion was awesome! The terminal energy was devastating. I live in town now.

Fuse yes, det cord...not the general public at least not without a commercial blasters lic.
Fuse is black powder& wax paper, det cord is PETN in a plastic shroud. Fuse burns are variable, a few seconds a foot. Det cord “burns” too, but it burns at over 18,000 ft/second.
MANY years ago, I did an EOD course at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama. We “cut” down some old sycamore trees on the edge of one of the munitions ranges with det cord; two wraps around an 18” diameter tree was enough. Lots faster than a chain saw...

That’s where this started for me.

I have some old CO2 fire extinguishers. They are small and heavy and may be good candidates to cut down to make into cannons?
